I hear so many differing "facts" and opinions that I want to kind of compare them all and see what people have discovered that I might have missed while simply accepting my all-inclusive sexuality and living with it.

Fire away.

Fireside, why are all your posts so... gay???

:badteeth: :lightshow:

Since I'm in here being a tard, guess I'll give my .02 on it. I'm not sure if I buy the whole "genetics" argument. I think that makes it easier for some people to accept, and while I'm sure there are plenty of genetic factors that might lead to an individual feeling that way (whether it's a conscious decision or not), I think it's really more of a socialization/environment thing. There is a TON of social baggage attached to homosexuality, probably since it's all tied up in our pervasive gender roles. Not that there are de facto influences that will "make you turn gay" at a young age, but I figure that (like a lot of things), your gender preference is a result of your associations, your values, and so on.

I would have to say that sexuality is a combination of a lot of things...

I've known I liked boys since I was maybe 5 or 6, conciously. There are certain things that lead me to suspect that genetics are at least involved in orientation. Such as being turned on by the way men smell, as opposed to the way women smell.

Oh, I get it. So, Alan, you're saying that guys realize they are gay when they pay attention to inconsequential shit like the way people smell, as opposed to the overwhelming, undeniable goodness of BOOBIES??

It all makes sense now.

i think there are several different reasons why ppl are gay, some ppl are gay by an obvious personal choice, for example: anne heche (sp?) you know, that chick that dated ellen. well she's not even gay anymore, she just decided not to be. and then there are those that very well could feel that way due to a chemical/horomonal imbalance that occured in the womb and caused their conscience to feel different from their body. these are the ppl who go so far as to have sex changes to feel comfortable in their own skin. i think there are different levels (don't think thats the right word but its all i got right now) of homosexuality.

gender identity/confusion is COMPLETELY a different issue from homosexuality. Most cross-dressers/transexuals are actually straight (guy dresses in women's clothing/gets a sex change to female, but is still attracted to women).

If you're gay by 'personal choice', chances are you're actually attracted to both to begin with...

i wasn't refering to crossdressers...there are ppl who get sex changes because they feel like they were born in the wrong body, before the sex change they were gay, after they're straight (kinda)

my theory is this:

everybody needs a certain amount of dick to feel complete. straight guys are born with the amount of dick they need, women are obviously born with no dick and must seek it out in men, gay men are born with dick, but require more to feel complete. This isn't to say gay men have small dick and straight men have bigger dick, just that gay men emotionally need more dick than they have.

Let's face it, everybody needs dick. That's why hardcore butchy/dyke lesbians are evil.

Actually, a lot of male transexuals (term for people who have gotten a sex change) are attracted to women, and still pursue women after they have gotten 'chopped'.

Eh, some of the coolest people I know are lesbians that look like they could beat Lou Ferigno at armwrestling.

And, btw, my cock's bigger than yours. :silly:

No, it comes down (at least to me) to a combination of what I feel is a genetic predisposition (I knew I was attracted to guys before I knew what being attracted was) with conditioning to certain archetypes.

Genetics may influence initial factors that increase likeliness tendancies but sociocultural influences tend to shape and mold what we perceive sexuality as and what we find acceptable. Sexual behavior that deviates from the norm seems to me to be that mixture of both the originating genetic factor combined with unique upbringing that produces the sexual pattern. However this is the same description that could be used in many ways to describe standard sexual practices. What's interesting to me is that in homosexual relationships the need to procreate and extend one's self beyond the current generation is not met, so how that disparity is resolved between one's sexual behavior and the understanding that it produces nothing in terms of offsprings strikes me as unique.

man i know straight people that don't want kids, and gay couples that do...they adopt (if allowed) or get sperm doners/serogant mothers, and the like. there are ways around such things. not everyone has the urge to reproduce

since reading comprehension obviously isn't genetic.....size has nothing to do with my theory. you obviously don't have enough dick of your own, so you seek it out from other men. my dick is enough for me emotionally, so I do not need to seek any more.

Andy,

I think by "hederalsexual", he was using "hip" slang for "dodecahederalsexual", which we all know means that you are wont to have sex with, well... just about anything that isn't emojohn.

I know. I was being silly. It's still a hilarious theory, and doesn't explain all the cool lesbians I know at ALL. Although I also have a couple funny 'uptight lesbian' stories, like the time I played a gig with a friend of mine's band (lesbian girls with a lesbian audience) in a hot un-air conditioned room. Well, playing drums and all, I got hot and took my shirt off. You should have seen the dirty looks and whispers being shot my way, like 'OOH DON'T INVADE OUR SACRED SPACE WITH YOUR MANHOOD!!!!!' Very weird situation. I never played another gig with the band, my decision. My friends Terri and Kris (the other people in the band) thought it was really weird and were kind of surprised.
