psychological research seems to indicate that homosexuality, like most other behaviors, is a result of both genetic and environmental factors, with influence from each one varying to a greater or lesser degree across individuals

the idea of a "gay gene" is simplistic and untenable...no single behavior is humans has been found to have a one-to-one correlation with genes...genetics produces predispositions or tendencies, and the environment molds these tendencies

regardless of how much one's homosexuality is due to genetics or environment, homosexuals are likely to have about as much choice in the matter of sexual preference as heterosexuals do

now, bisexuals are a different story: there's more room for confusion and conscious choice in such cases because some people could be truly bisexual, some could be homosexual and experiencing personal conflict, some could be dominantly or truly heterosexual but are engaging in hedonism wherever possible

where do you find basis for this information?

I have no research basis for my statements on bisexuality; I'm merely speculating based on experience, from talking to people I've been acquainted with personally, at work, at school, or in the psych hospital where I worked for 3 years, and based on what seems logical, that different people can have varying degrees of attraction for each gender

being a lesbian is an impossibility since I'm male

sexuality is fluid. i know for me i identify as bisexual, even tho i have never dated a man.

homosexuality is a factor of both culture and biology, in my opinon. ive have many crushes on women since i was young, but did not understand what my feelings where. i thought that these women were the most badass people in the world and i wanted to be around them at ever chance i had. (even got jealous when others would spend more time with them). in retrospect this is obviously a crush, but i didnt realize it then.

inn8, why would you say that homosexual behavior is not natural? and why is the word rights in quotes?

im very defensive now a days with the attacks on gay rights. with bush introducing the federal marriage admendment to satisfy the religious right, you might understand why i am weary of the quotes.

all u.s. citizens should be entitled to the same rights as everyone else regardless of sexual preference. denying marriage to a group of people is discrimination. period.

i wish people would stop trying to find a reason for being gay. it is what it is. gay animals and people have been around for ever and i really am surprised at the complete ignorance of some people. seriously. i'm gay, he's gay, i heard the governor might be gay. i like girls, cuz i just like em. i like boys a lot too, but i don't wanna do it with them. don't worry about what made me (or anyone else) gay. all we should be focused on now is how we can all live with eachother and play nice while we're here.

btw, i really like the population control theory.

to add on to this discussion, I learned in Physiological Psychology II that one environmental influence that is highly likely to take part in homosexual behavior is prenatal exposure (or lack of exposure) to certain hormones responsible for masculinizing or defeminizing the developing brain of the fetus...much the same as typical prenatal exposure (or lack of exposure) to certain hormones leads to heterosexual behavior...although not in line with the "gay gene" theory, prenatal exposure to hormones is definitely something that is beyond one's control or choice, thus making the idea of homosexuality as a moral issue an idiotic one

hmm... I had a girlfriend whom I was with for a long time and was planning on marrying...

never had problems(unhealthy as hell, I know), never fought, never argued... never a fucking care in the world. Absolutely in love with her, and according to her, she was in love with me(and she'd say that today)

then one day, she comes to me and says "I don't think this is going to work out"

It turns out, she's been "gay" for some time, but she was both afraid of how I would react, and how people around her would act(she lives in Kansas--which is like texas, exceptions being that we don't say "ain't", "y'all")

Well, she was right to be afraid of MY reaction... not so much at her being gay, but for hiding it from me for so fucking long... she lied to me. but was her fear justified?

Of course it was, but lying wasn't.

She's always had a strong mother figure, and shitty male influences in her life--and I could attribute HER situation to environment as well as a possible pre-disposition... but in her case, it may be environment more than anything. of course, I'd like to think WHY-HOW-WHEN-WHERE-WHO is on a case by case basis...

I think the REAL question is WHY do you people only debate about homosexuality? I would think that has to do with an underlying predisposition of your own ;)
