Wow..

Image

First place I could put this, would be my car.. I'd use it for GPS, and Music type stuff.

Even better? I'd run Windows Media Center and use it for Tivo type stuff.

In the right case, you could take it to a club and use it as your visuals systems.

Not sure what the cost is yet, but when all is said and done, I'm sure it'll be under 600$.

edit.. the 600$ would include a 7" lcd display ram, case and foldout keyboard.

Thats awesome. What would be the maximum processor speed for it though? I know how to build a computer but there is just some stuff I don't know yet that I'm learning from my friends.

roughtly 1.2gigs.

But its not like you'd be running WOW at super high detail.. it would be perfect for playing dvds, music, gps system. They haven't made it to market yet, but I've got my eye open for it.

Shit, if you tossed an 80gig harddrive into it, it could be used to record shows off the mixer board. it would super small and no one would know what it is.

Damn.. I could use it as a simple media device with wifi, and vpn access so i could connect into work. the possibilities are endless.

Two months ago, I'd be asking what the hell VPN was. *hairflip*

That's a nifty little link you posted up. The possibilities ARE endless. :plur:

My cell phone already does all that stuff...

The internet connection is surprisingly fast too.

got both already for work..

but as a personal device.

You could use it as a tuner computer for your car w/ a small display maybe in your sun visor, could log miles, shift points, etc.. it would surpass any programmer on the market.

Yes, but can you re-program your phone to run XP or Linux?

Oh the ideas.... :plur:

Since I'm too lazy to look at the link -- I see the regular IDE hookups, is that a SATA hookup on the left?, a monitor jack and a NIC jack. The other erroneous stuff is obviously for the power/reset button/leds, and the main power lead. Where's RAM plug in? No tertiary video card limits what you can do visually, but beyond that the skies the limit.

also Via sucks ass.

I've had problems with every Via processor, chipset and other random hardware that was Via made. fuck them hoz.

no way.. core duo would be over kill.

funny about via, i've had 2 via motherboards and never had an issue. then again, it all depends on hardware configs.. its like people who say maxtor suck, and some who say they dont. some people have good luck, others have bad.

woohoo!

90% of my harddrive woes can be linked back to broken IDE cables -- not the ports or the board. :pirate:

100% of Dirks have many sets of IDE cables and hard drives and none worked.

Don't ask me. I'm not the master of the mystery. I just know one day system wont boot -- reseat cables -- still broken -- replace cables -- boop boop ber-doop, bootup. :nerdl: It happened with my old SATA drive -- replaced the drive, motherboard and shit was still broken (I wanted to use the same red cable, damnit!). Finally swapped to the "new orange" and it worked fine. Even plugged all the old stuff up with the new cable. *shrugs* Maybe cables get herpes via intarweb?

I used to work in cable harness assembly and there's alot more to it than is apparent. Ribbon cables are especially sensitive. Not the cable itself, but the connectors. The connector must be pressed onto the cable and if not done perfectly, can either not work from the start or fail later on and nobody would ever know until alot of use unless it is tested properly. The el cheapo cable testers will simply test for opens and shorts via continuity. The next step up will test the resistance of each conductor. Most mis-pressed ribbon cables will show up here. The next step is the high voltage tester which ramps up voltage through each connector up to the rated voltage of the wire. If the cable is not pressed absolutely perfect, it will be rejected. You don't even have to touch the cable to bring on these defects. Small amounts of DC current traveling through a bad connection will over time oxidate the conductive material and create an open connection.
I hope this helps clear up the cable mystery.

I used Asus for by first and second machines. My first was a PIII/700 I built around '01. Then I upgraded to a 2.4 P4 which is what I currently use. I have never *knocks on wood* had any issues with hardware. Software on the other hand...is a totally different story. I think the desktops are about to be extinct. I can't imagine people using them other than for servers and such.

My laptop is a Toshiba Satellite P-105 Dual Core 1.83 gigs, Nvidia Go7900GS graphics card, 2 gigs of ram, and a updated 7200rpm 100 gig drive. Which is like night/day vs. the old 4200 160 gig drive that came with the unit. Now I know why SCSCI was so popular all these years. The unit is great, but has a known freezing issue with applications that has yet to be resolved. Now that I have greatly increased the speed, it is not so prevalent. And the gpu is not upgradable. If they put out a mid priced unit that you could replace the gpu, I would be extremely happy. I also think it would increase their sales dramatically.

Well, all of those translated into more speed for me. Splitting hairs but yes it included those.
