Does any one here prefer to us another brand of turntables OTHER then technics? I learned and spun for a long time on them but I think they are a bit over hyped. I prefer Vestax over them.

what makes you prefer the vestax? (i like tech's, but i've used them 99% of the time too so i'm kinda biased)

Dont know. Its not that I dont like the technics I do, 95% of my audio equipment is technics, I went into a store where we used to buy all of our equipment with one of the club owners that I used to spin for, he had one of the Vestaxs out. Tired it out and man I dont know exactly what it was but I loved the way they worked. If it were not for the price I would have me a set!!! Plus the fact that every time I hear some newbiee say "Man you dont like tech? How can you be a DJ?" Gets old hehe

do I like any other brands other than technics? sure....if I had money to blow would I buy a set of Vestax or Stantons? sure.

but the fact of the matter is that when I was looking at buying decks, I wanted a set that I KNOW will last me for a very long time.....and no one else but Technics has that kind of reputation.

Vestax, Numarks, Stantons, Gemini, etc, etc may have all kinds of cool flashy lights and gadgets on them....but they are just over compensating for their lack of durability.

Dude, SpaceCadet, I was having a bad day but you just MADE ME LAUGH bwahhaahahahahahahahahahah I needed that thanks a lot!Image
Check out that hollowed out needle!! Man never seen that before!!

And dirk, the only reason that I ever spun on technics or vestax was because every club I worked for had them, My own set? Numark, The cheep ones. I practice on them and I take them out. Then have more then double the very small price that I paid for them. Plus when some e-tard decides to bump my table or some twit spills a drink on it, no worries I can go get another one. If I had techs or vest at the party and that happened. ooooooooooooooh no would be up set....

I just brought this up becase its like living in dallas. If you dont drive a benz or a bmw you are nothing. To allot of DJ in the comunity the only thing they ever talk about is 1200 and most of them have never even heard the name Vestax or Rane.

maybe if i was into turntablism i'd buy vestax, but i love my techs. the main thing for me is that they are practically everywhere you play out, so it's better to get used to them at home.

here here... i just bought my techs, and they are great. have not played on vestax, and probably wont, just because im not buying them, and im yet to see any in a club. im sure they are good for turntablists, but i am not one, so theres no point. i really want a nice vestax mixer tho...

<-----wondering the same thing. i knew they did mixers and efx but haven't heard anything on decks.

as for me, i have recently played on the vestax pictured above twice now. they're, ummm, different. they have a little more range on the pitch, so the first time you play on em, you have to pay a little more attention. they seem like solid tables and all, but honestly, i think they're ugly, and i HATE the look of that strait tonearm...

here at my house, call me a conformist, but i have a set of mk2's. as stated by someone above, i wanted something that was going to last me a while. you see, money is HARD to come by when you're me. and i had played on a friends belt drives prior to purchasing my 12's. i knew i NEVER wanted to make the mistake of buying those. and i figured that i might as well go ahead and shell out the money for 12's NOW, and have a set of tables that are going to last me for a long time to come, then have to settle for something cheaper and end up spending a considerable amount more in the long run by repairing/replacing tables.

here is the real question... does any other table beat (or even match?!) the 0.01% wow and flutter spec of the 1200/1210's ? certainly not stantons or numarks... and I cant find the wow and flutter spec on a pdx2000 or the like...

woopty do.....even if a deck supercedes the 1200's specs, it will just hamper you if you play out

Tech = industry standard

If you cant beatmatch on ANY professional table... you have NO business behind the decks..........

beat matching is beat matching, the specs on a table should have no bearing on whether or not you can beat match.

true... ive seen many of people successfully beatmatch on very poor decks. The reason i was interested in the wow and flutter spec, is because it is a measurement of speed accuracy.

the lower the number of the wow and flutter spec, the longer the records will stay matched, assuming you have them beatmatched perfectly. yes, it doesnt matter a whole lot, but speed accuracy is defintly a plus. vestax does not specify a wow and flutter specification in the PDF doc for the PDX2000 (which i found on vestax's site, http://www.vestax.com), which includes most other technical specs.

I've heard alot of good thing about vestax decks over quite some period of time now, but i've yet to use one. if I were to seriously consider anything besides a 1200 M3D, i'd certainly look into them. but as dirk hinted, it's best to be used to what you will use live - where your performance matters the most...

I learned how to spin on a pair of stanton str8 80's and they were great..........after a year i upgraded to techs and it was like DAMN THIS IS EASY. Now i love my techs and wouldnt dream of replacing them.................plus those are the only tables youll ever play out on so its good to be used to them

I love my 1210's, but I wouldn't mind having a pair of Denon decks with the digital out. :D
