I was thinking that because there isn't one club in Austin that plays trance music that we should get some trance DJs together and find a club and start doing a weekly. There is so much good stuff coming out from Europe and the UK. Some hard banging beats with melodic synths! We have to get this stuff heard. If interested, please email me at james @dj-hoyt.com and we will discuss when, where, and how. I'm thinking we could call the night Frequency or NightNRG or something. Please email me if interested =)

Its really hard to have a solid night of one style at a club all the time. Most clubs might have a single night of it once a month or a DJ here and there.. But for the most part it isn't done. Mainly because people in this town don't want to hear the same thing all night long.

I agree, a trance night would be nice, but more of a Monthly thing. Build it up, and if you get the right kind of response then it might work out as a weekly. Trance is a hard sell in this town.. Gotta spoon feed it to people in small doses... And none of this sandstrom bullshit.. People fucking hate that shit in this town.

Good Luck.

take it from someone that, while promoting, really tried to push trance artists in Austin. it's nearly impossible to maintain a steady fan base with JUST trance......

and YEAH... if you ever did anything, Kurt needs to be on your list of regular djs...... he's teh RAWK!

thanks for the support guys.. :plur:

I *am* a trance dj.. I love that shit with all my heart.. But I understand what makes it and what doesn't. I got bored with things, thats why I spin DnB like a Trance DJ..

Trance will have its coming. It just takes a few die hards to keep it alive. You just have to shove all that lame bullshit out the door..

Anything off the Nuckleus(sp?) Tidy, and TinRib labels will cause people to throw furniture.. Its not about the back rubs and hugging the person next to you anymore.. People are tire of that.. Its time for something new.. Faster, more high energy.. Something that'll make the girls *dance* instead of shimmy up and down to the same 4 on the floor beat..

Give it time.. my 2nd disk will be all trance.. people will understand shortly.

Again.. Hoyt.. Best of luck.

I spin house like a trance dj sometimes :)

cuz thats what I am at heart too, but a funky bassline will ALWAYS get my blood pumping.

I'd play for you guys if you'd book me.

I agree w/ Kurt 100%. There is some good trance out there, but because too many lame asses have been playing cheesy shit, trance has gotten somewhat of a bad name. My good friend Dave, DJ Octane has to deal w/ a bunch of negative shit once he says he plays trance, before they even hear him. All that DJ Sammy, Ian Van Dahl bullshit has to go.

the monthly is really the only way to go with trance in austin at the moment. or maybe every other month with more of a bigger name to build up and grab customers that wouldn't normally make it out for the regular show.

most decent US trance djs are finding bookings to be slightly more difficult to grab than a few years ago, it seems..

Oh no not at all. It seems like some people here haven't heard the latest Ian Van Dahl stuff which is really good! Also, they got some good remixed tracks. And Conjure One - Sleep (Ian Van Dahl Remix) is a winner!

But yeah. This will be all forms of trance. The fact that someone here said people in Austin don't like to hear the same thing all the time is really funny because that's what hip-hop and house clubs do, haha.

But if we have enough DJs playing different genres of trance, this will be great! Hard, epic, melodic, vocal, deep, progressive, undeground, ALL! It would be a very good night.

But yes, I am aware this will be a bitch to do. All the support I can get will be a lot of help =) Sounds like I got a good amount of DJs so any ideas in getting a venue? Maybe we could do a trance monthly?

I've heard it; it's cheese, but that's just my opinion, so please don't take offense. Didn't you play @ Spiro's @ the end of April? If so Octane played there the same night. Tall, Mexican d00d from San Antonio.....

serious. they did a big dishonor to trance. proper trance from the UK and Dutch labels the only way to go.

im a house head but love trance just as much. its just sad to see most ATXers unfairly brand you as cheese if you say you spin or like trance.

real trance is just as musically brilliant as any other genre.

anyways, let me know what you can organize...ill be there to support it!

Oh no I took no offense =) And yeah, I played at Spiro's in April at the end of it. I was the first DJ up so you probably saw me =)

i agree, but it's hard to get a club manager to roll with locals all the time.. you have to have one big shot of attendance (that only a headliner type can bring) every once and awhile..... doesn't have to be someone HUGE. it's nice to have Chris Fortier or Christopher Lawrence in every now and again... both great guys who understand what it's like to try and build something up......

I said "yay" simply for varieties sake. Iwouldn't actually go to a trance night anywhere, but it's comforting to know that if I wanted to, I'd have the option. :pirate:

It's people like you that I like. You know that there are places for hip-hop, house, and dnb and there needs to be some other stuff out there. I appreciate the vote =)
