saw the whole documentary series last night, covered everything from Hoffman's infamous bike ride, the Beat generation, hippie revolution, disco and the llello, the crack boom, to the present meth dilemma; even included the rave scene from the latter part of the 80's, and showed "the pier", the infamous underground (literally) warehouse at the shipping docks, where Carl Craig and company threw their infamous parties back in '85... the heyday of ecstacy

very thorough documentary, had both sides' p.o.v's

notorious and infamous are synonyms...

your usage of the word could be correct if you meant the parties were seen as having a bad reputation by others, which likely is true to some extent
