Kai Zen's new post in Gen Disc. about the Rave Act online petition thing has got me thinking that we need to post a list of our collective pet peeves on the boards for noobies to look at 24/7. Simple shit like reading the thread before asking dumbass questions that have already been answered. Or, posting something that's already been posted a million times already, etc.

Sure it probably won't stop it from happening, but it would be funny. And maybe some noobs would think twice about starting to post once they read it?

We can call it the rules...

And It will be sticky and locked so no one can comment, if they do not read and follow the rules they are left to the wrath of us >=)

See a form of the rules at

http://www.hardforums.com

Here they are copied over...

[H]ard|Forum Rules · No CUSSING in the subject lines, this is grounds for immediate removal of your posting privileges. · No Hotmail or Yahoo accounts allowed, and ANY mailbox that bounces will be grounds for immediate removal of your posting privileges. · No spamming. Any such messages will be removed at the discretion of either a forum moderator or administrator. · No flaming. Same rule applies as above. · No bombing forums or threads with pointless posts. (See also troll.) · No shouting. It’s just plain rude and annoying. · No linking or posting of pornographic material. · No active links or graphics allowed in signatures . · You must respect the privacy of other members and individuals. Do not post personal information (i.e. addresses, phone numbers, passwords, personal identification numbers, or any other information considered private) without the express permission of the individual. · Refrain from using excessive profanity dammit. · Do not abuse VB code. It is provided as a benefit to you and its usage can be revoked. · Each Hard|Forum member is limited to one account/alias, unless otherwise authorized by a Hard|Forum administrator. Do not impersonate other individuals or falsely represent yourself. · Try to post to the forum that is most appropriate for the topic being presented. · You must have a valid e-mail account where you can be reached by a forum moderator or administrator. Hard|OCP has addressed privacy concerns by allowing users to set-up their accounts so that e-mail addresses may not be displayed to other users, but rather moderators and administrators only. It is important to note, however, that due to the recent problems, free e-mail accounts (i.e. @hotmail, @yahoo, etc.) are no longer considered as valid for Hard|Forum purposes. · Observe all copyright laws when posting copyrighted material. If the material belongs to someone else, credit the original author. Do not post material where you do not have permission to distribute it electronically or otherwise. · No advertising, buying, selling, or trading anywhere with the exception of the For Sale / Trade forum. The rules of that forum, which must be abided by, are located here. Hard|OCP is not responsible for any loss due to any sale or exchange of any item in the For Sale / Trade forum. · Posts should be in English only. Non-English posts may be removed. · Respect both forum moderators and administrators. · The posting of the word "Everglide" is grounds for immediate banning, no questions asked. Everglued sucks ass in our opinion and we refuse to promote them since the cost us thousands of dollars in lawyers fees by threatening us with lawsuits. · Hard|OCP reserves the right to edit, reprint, distribute, or delete any posting for any reason and without prior notification or explanation to the author. Moderators and administrators frequently review forum messages for those that are in violation of Hard|Forum rules. Any messages found to be in violation will be deleted without warning or explanation. All messages posted become the property of Hard|OCP. · Hard|OCP also reserves the right to ban any user, at any time, and for any reason. · Hard|OCP and its representatives will not be held liable for the result of the usage of any information provided in the Hard|Forum, and disclaim all liability resulting in the use of the posted information. · You will not discuss, suggest, engage, or encourage any illegal activity. Links provided to locations that deal with any such activity are also expressly forbidden. · Do not post messages that violate Federal, State, or Local laws which include, but are not limited to, anything that violates a copyright, trademark, patent, trade secret, or is bound by NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement). · Hard|OCP takes no responsibility for the content of any of the messages posted in the Hard|Forum or of the authenticity of its authors. All opinions and views expressed in the Hard|Forum are solely those of their respective authors and are not necessarily those of Hard|OCP or its representatives. · Hard|OCP reserves the right to change the aforementioned rules at any time without warning or notice. It is the responsibility of the forum member to check this page on a regular basis for any revisions in Hard|Forum rules before making any posts to the forum. · By posting to the Hard|Forum, you agree to abide by the above rules and terms. · No sig lines with cussing in them and no sig lines with more than ten line total, other will be grounds for immediate removal of your posting privileges.

We can make ours a little prittier!

when was the last time anybody read any rules that came with a downloaded program. yea.. most people don't even know of such rules when they sign on for the first time to tbn message board.
it's just going to be a waste of energy that could be used to better the tbn.net thing
for instance organizing a Peanut Butter and Jelly social ....

Hard Forums rules might be strict but they have a zero asshat problem there. The same rules go at Arstechnica.

Yea those rules are not ours, they were just copied from another site to give you an idea.

I have been banned twice from there, and I still don't know why.

i think the hardforums example is a bit extreme, but i like dustin's idea. it doesn't necessarily have to be something strict and intimidating and who knows, it might save someone some strife.

ps: dustin i meant to tell you, i dug bodeggas a lot. really nice progression, i had never heard minimal house (the stuff in the beginning... i'm guessing that's what you'd call it).

Hah. I can't believe this is still visible when you click this forum.

Glad you liked it Milo. I guess you could call the DJ Emily track minimal house. Seems fitting enough. I usually like to start simple, and the progress from there.
