Yeah that sucks. The US count is up to 14 they said. I wonder what the Iraq count is up to. Guess we won't know for awhile.

*flips on news* That sounds incredible. I am pretty impressed with the effort to keep civilian casualities low. Lets hope everything goes well for all sides involved.

im impressed they still have their power on... i was expecting some sort of knock out of power plants... but i guess that would disturb the civilians too much

It is weird to see news media set up in Bagdad filming the whole war. Can you imagine if some foreign press core came into our country, proceeded to attack us and then film it?

Sounds like they are trying to keep as much as the infrastructure of the country intact, while concentrating on specific military objectives and of course Saddam's regime.

Totally man. It'd rock to open fire on some media people while the dirty bombs were goin off, haha. At least I'd feel good about myself before I died.

I understand they are trying to aim for military targets and such, but, I have to wonder what historic and important buildings they are hitting. The war is against Saddam not the Iraqi people. Our goal shouldn't be to destroy their culture and religon.

I'm not real military savvy so forgive me if I sound retarded.

baghdad has been the center of that region for like a gazillion years... from what i hear the only "cultural" targets that are being hit are presidential palaces... "symbols of an opressive regime"

The footage I've seen so far clearly shows we're making huge efforts to not hit civilian targets, and they even left the lights on. Props to that decision, and our armed forces are doing a great job. Precision guided 2000 lb JDAMS kick much ass, even to someone who protested the war.

Oh was that your palace we hit Saddam? Sorry about that, here's 12 more JDAM's on top of that first one to help you level the lot and start fresh!

Iraq's only hope is for International Outcry against the US. If they kill reporters, that doesn't make them look good. Plus, it forces us to "play nice." With cameras on, the atrocities are brought to light. It's not like vietnam where we didn't know all the inside details during the conflict.

The media is a great check against unneccessary violence.

I wonder what everyone was expecting in this war? Some long drawn out conflict? Lots of random death?

I think war has changed, at least for us. We have the ability to see the ongoing war as no one has before. The military knows they're being watched CLOSELY by everyone. For their sake, they have to do the best job possible. They're under scrutiny.

I think Americans in general are ignorant of why a lot of countries hate us, but we would rather not give people a reason to hate us. If Americans actually see what's going on, and see all the reasons people are legitimately pissed off at us, we'll want to correct those situations. This is one situation where I like superfluous media coverage.

I do not mind the media coverage. Although, I can imagine it would be horrible to have someone in the service and have to view choas like that.

However, it would definately suck to be a civilian in Bagdad. Talk about Post Traumatic Stress. :(

yeah really...they were talking about a dude that was like 50 and had a very successful restaurant but now had to leave it all behind. His family is now at the refugee camp. When this is all over what is he going to do. Its easy to rebuild a life when your young but when your 50...

You should say "shockandawe" instead of shit now. It's really funny.

Personally, I don't think this shock and awe business is necessary. It's needlessly destructive and wasteful. If we can take over the country without destroying 90% of it, it'll be easier (and cheaper) to rebuild, and it won't end up being another Afghanistan.

But that would defeat the purpose of Bush's international pissing contest.

keep in mind jeremy baghdad is only a small part of iraq... and in relation to the rest of the the country there arent that many targets...

lane... its not like we are carpet bombing the place... each of these bombs has a specific target... its not like dresden or berlin... granted it might be a bit harder to rebuild after it with military HQs gone and such... but i think it can be done... smart weapons rule so much...
