I thought about it once upon a time but I found that some parts are very SPECIFIC and pricey. For example, some chips as specified by Moog goes for over $100. Mark-up galore and hard to find. Screw that. You can start with this website.....

http://www.synthzone.com

Try some basic sine, triangle and square waveform generators and go from there. There is a software program that lets you hear the output if you combine such and such generator with different LFOs and effects. I forgot the name of it but I found it on the aforementioned website. Have fun with it, be careful when dealing with hardware electronics and good luck! :D

i have built synths and effects. there is a book called Electronic projects for musicians. It will show you how to build some effects. Easy for the beginner. If you want to build a synth because you don't have the money to buy a triton, i would recommend you get a second job. your synth will be noisy and will take you months to build. but if you love technology and want to learn electronics.. go for it. Its fun, and its alot better than watching tv or being comatose. Fry's as well as radioshack carries alot of parts.. Jameco.com also has tons of stuff.

about 6 years ago when i was a broke student i built a 6 channel studio mixer for like 30 bucks. (this was before technology was dirt cheap.. 4 channel mixers started at 150.00 or and dj mixers didn't have eqs) so it can be cheap. I also built a nice ring modulator and a couple of synth modules

anyway..there are tons of schematics out there.. have fun.
