Change is inevitable, deal with it. I don't think that the Waller Creek TUNNEL will displace all that many above ground venues, like Stubbs, Elysium, Plush etc. Maybe there's something about tunnels I don't know about, like the above ground kind. Anyway, shit's gonna happen whether you like it or not, so if you're against the plan, go down there and party like a rockstar for as long as you can so you can tell your kids kids how you jammed with the best of the best and got all the cheap drinks/friendly conversation you could handle. If you're for the plan and think the shithole will be improved and cleaned up by said plan, move into one of the luxury condos that will soon be available at the expense of most of the live music venues in the area that play music louder than say, 10db. That's pretty much anyone with a car stereo for the ill informed. See you master debaters later, mmmkay. :slayer:

so, you're going with the REALLY FUCKING LITERAL definition of tunnel. you like the new star wars flicks?

yeah this definitely sounds more like a riverwalk than some party tunnel.

Well Dave*, yes I am. And no I don't care for the "new star wars flicks". Here's a bit of info for you copied straight off the City of Austin's Waller Creek Project website. Ready?

Overview
The Waller Creek Tunnel Project is a proposed underground stormwater bypass tunnel from Waterloo Park to Lady Bird Lake near Waller Beach. The tunnel will be 22-feet in diameter and almost one mile long. The project is expected to remove an estimated 1,243,000 square feet of land from the floodplain of the lower Waller Creek watershed, will allow denser development in a very desirable area of downtown, and divert floodwaters that create erosion problems and safety concerns.

Here's the link so you can go read it yourself. http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/wallercreek/ Take note of the key word nine words into the sentence. Say it with me Dave*, it says "UNDERGROUND" and then three words later "TUNNEL"!! Wow! It would be next to impossible to take that anymore literally now wouldn't it? Got your light saber ready?

Now I realize that once this underground tunnel is completed, all that above ground land that is no longer in the floodplain will be ripe for development, and that is what poses a potential threat to your cherished venues. My point is that I don't think Stubbs and several other venues down there have to worry about being torn down in the name of redevelopment, unless of course the land/property owners get greedy and see $ signs and say "Fuck Austin and it's dying live music scene, we're taking the dinero!". Then yes, they'll go the way of the dinosaurs. And no, that doesn't mean an asteroid will take them out, all things spacey Dave*. You have a good day now.

yeah, that'd be the missing piece i'm referring to. either way, thanks for the info. you are a city-planning tour de force.

Want some bad ass places? Opals up North, Iron Cactus up north, and Trudys North = awesome. Clean, friendly staff, cheap drinks, and bad ass outside seating + food = awesome.

I loathe the clientele at the places you venture to. a] Hate Trudy's food, except the stuffed avacado. That's alright.
Iron Cactus- filled with white collared dell-like people. Don't care.
I like Opals [south], but I'd rather hang out in a dive bar. Just because it seems seedy, doesn't make it dirty.

And with your response to Dave's comment about people who don't venture to the area shouldn't have a say in it, it's not ignorant, its true. You don't go to the area, so you really don't know what is there or is lacking. So, your opinion is null and void on the matter.

yeah! what she said ya flippin' tourist!

they don't mind. they're all going to move up north, where it's nicer anyway. you know, kinda around the Iron Cactus/Opal's north area. :badteeth:
