I'm thinking about going to the Critical Mass ride tomorrow afternoon (3/28). It starts around 5 at the UT west mall (I guess somewheres around Guadalupe and 20th/21st streets). Hit me up if you wanna join, I kinda don't wanna ride around with a bunch of strangers. I can also probably bring an extra bike if you don't gots one, although if you're over 6', you might be outta luck cuz it may not fit.

I KNEW IT!

yeah, I've read critical mass's site/info...but there's a difference between the way things should be run and the way things are run (and work). experience, nga

a. get off work early

b. find some nerdy dude down there and ask to borrow his bike

a) I get off at 530 just to go to my other job by 6 :) and can't call in due to it being the service industry. And I could use the money.

b) I'm hoping to get a bike soon, so nerd not necessary

The austin chapter of critical mass is kind of unique.
There's no leadership or huge organization to it. Everyone just kinda goes with the flow. I think the only consistant thing is the last friday of every month @ 5. Routes differ and activites afterwards do too.

I have yet to make it to one, but I've heard they are fun.
There's a handful of people though [cyclists included] who are against it because they don't really abide to some of the laws. *shrug*

Have fun though, if you make it out!!

Thanks. I loathe it though. Even though it's not bad, but boss at the 2nd job is a total tool. I just have to stick it out til the fall so I can pay off all debts [cc/car].

And critical mass is cyclist event where all of them meet up and ride around downtown.

awww..that sounds like fun!! If I had a bike I'd go.

I feel you with the 2 jobs though. I've been working hella overtime to pay off tickets/cc's so now I got a second job at sephora so I don't get burned out. Plus, makeup is what I really want to do so that gets me in. PLUS. the discount is boss.

Yeah the leaderless aspect of it is not unique to Austin, as much as you little 512ers would like to claim it is. It's been leaderless since it started in CALIFORNIA. San Francisco, to be precise. There are a shitload of cities that also do it, so it's kinda cool knowing that on the last Friday of the month, there are like thousands of other riders cruising at the same time.

I've done some pretty big group rides before that were either law-abiding or not...tends to be less friction with the cops and Muggles in cars if you're not breaking rules though. Since I had such a lackluster response and don't really feel like driving and riding by myself, I'll probably hit up the one next month for sure. I also basically have 3 bikes at my disposal so if people wanna ride I can definitely sport an extra. I think next month me, Dirk, and Anaken are going to be riding for sure; and Ken might also have an extra bike still. So yeah, watch this space for the biking massif!

if I can get some shit sold I might have an extra bike as well. I can also carry 3 bikes if anyone needs me to transport 1.

its kind of fizzled out for the most part in NYC.

The coolest one i was a part of before shit hit the fan was when we rode through the lincoln tunnel about two years or so ago.

ok.. so probably not the best of ideas... and im sure it pissed off everyone in and around NYC on a friday night.... but it was nuts.

Dear Sean,

Come to NYC.
We will ride <3

<3

Unfortch, as far as I know there isn't free beer unless you pack your own I'm guessing.

And yes Chris, I'll bring my ride to Boston so we can cruise the East Village. <3
