I was having trouble with this before I reinstalled XP over the weekend so I didn't think its an XP issue. I installed all my drivers and had no issues with that either.

I can log into Myspace and do everything but view bulletins and post them. Firefox and IE try to connect, it hangs up, then I get a screen telling me the server is unavailable.

I thought it might be my IP address being banned or something, but I tried my wife's E1705 on the same cable modem after resintalling XP and it accesses and posts bulletins with no issue whatsoever.

I installed only AVG and Spybot (with TeaTimer active) on both. I did install Adaware 2007 on both, but haven't run a scan on my wife's computer yet. Both computers have Windows Firewall active and have default configurations.

The only other thing I can think of as I type this is to uninstall my Broadcom network adapter and scan for hardware changes in the Device Manager and reinstall drivers.

Anyone have any idea why this is happening on my laptop?

omfg... *wipes tear away*

let me get this straight... you couldn't post myspace bulletins so you reinstalled your network card drivers?

Oh, Hell no.

I reinstalled XP because I wanted a clean slate after playing around with too many settings in the registry.

The Myspace issue was just kind of around before and after the fact. Its annoying the crap out of me.

Its like losing the TV remote. Sure, you can still get up and change the channel, but in the back of your mind you're always gonna wonder where its at.

I thought it might be a network card issue.

If you can log into MySpace, there isn't any problem on your end. Sometimes their servers just get bogged down (they use different servers for different functions).

Its just frickin' weird that it would work on one laptop and not another on the same modem.

No it's not, it just means the laptop that doesn't work has something fucked up.

unless your laptop has the exact same software and updates as the computer that works there could be any number of reasons why it is or isn't working.

try using Firefox on your laptop. If it works in Firefox at least you've narrowed it down to it being an issue w/ IE.

It stalls on both IE and Firefox.

The reinstall didn't do anything. Eh, I'll live with it. At least I have my porn.

This is messed up. Its like buying a nice car and having a broken trunk release button on the keychain. Sure you can use the key or open it from inside the car, but if you buy something...everything should work.

thats a weird one dave.. im pretty much stumped.. reloading is a bit over the top, but that should have fixed it. unless, and im totally reaching here.. there might be some sort of ip / mac address issue with that one machine. have you tried a different isp? like jumped on someones open wifi and have it happen?

Yeah, it works when I access it through the wireless card. It worked at Dolce and when I accessed it at my mother-in-laws house.

Its only when I try to do it hard wired into the cable modem at my house...BUT it works fine when hard wired from my wife's laptop. Why would everything else but this one thing work? I figured if there was an issue with my ethernet contoller I would have problems accessing secure sites.

Disable your wireless when you're connected via hardwire. Sometimes this can cause a redundancy issue.

thats a good one, disable one or the other.. I have all sorts of ftp issues if I'm wired in and my wireless card are both enabled and connected.
