Do you remember DWANGO? John Romero set it up as a local deathmatch service. Later came the BBS' with their proprietary software to port more than just Doom/Doom2 through (Warcraft 2, C&C, Duke Nukem 3D, etc). Fortunately the internet came along shortly there-after. My uncle ran a BBS service, maybe you'll remember it -- Bigtoe BBS?...

Learn to adapt. The OSX GUI is designed to be intuitive to most people. On the surface OSX is an easy to use, friendly OS. Behind the pretty pretty interface is an extremely powerful BSD based OS that can (and does) run circles around Windows from a desktop OS perspective.

OSX supports multi button mice, fool.

That was around late 96/97.. by that time it was dead.

I ran my little service from mid 92 to early 96. I had to shut down when I joined the military. I was a courier for early razor911, lsd, and KoTRT. Even ran my own little demo group. boy.. i thought i was l33t..

I would go with a Toshiba. No need to spend an extra grand to get the Apple name. Use that grand to get a really nice graphics card instead. You can get a Nvidia Go7950GT and have a multimedia power house. Or look for a system that has an upgradeable GPU slot(usually on high end Alienware/Dell laptops). I guess it depends on what you want to do with the laptop. Any of the laptops mentioned could do the tasks you are describing. There is a OSX beta project in the works for PC users, if you are really keen on the Apple OS. Whether it be blue screen of death, or a spinning beach ball, shit happens. Whatever you get, I would insure it to the max. Get spill protection etc...You might also check the track history with repairs, customer service, etc.. I know Apple has a high customer service rating, but that is mostly due to all the koolaid their customers routinely ingest. :D

still past my time.. that was late 96 early 97.

hardcore for me was writing ansi bombs that would remap your enemies keyboard into formating his or her computer.

that was nothing compared to this dude.. http://tmok.com/ this guy at the age of 13 wrote his own BBS in pascal called nubbs back in 91. At the age of 14 he was one of the few free bbs's with a feed into the internet 24/7 for free. this cat was one of the people who invented 'l33t'.

what model is that?

BTW if you need a HP OEM version of XP for it, LMK. It's perfectly legal to downgrade to XP w/ an OEM Vista license.

I was looking at the Vostro line from Dell. They're not bad at all and you can get XP installed.
