So my roommates and I came up with this question since we now have 2 lil doggies and one cat in the household.
Who's smarter?
I would think the cat,
but he's got that F*U attitude like most cats and they just dont listen.
There might be a straight answer to this question but i thought Id get your opinions on it.

cats are smarter cause they know how to stick it to the man.

dogs are like the bible belt.

Quantify "smarter".

Most people equate an animal's ability to learn tricks or functions to their intellect. *shrugs* Just like placement tests are used for humans. Felines are more capable creatures solo, but when you work that up against human companionship -- I'd say the K9 wins hands down. But you can blame that on the fact that humans have been taming dogs yeeeeeeeearrs before cats.

It would really depend a lot on the dog. I have little experience with cats, but there is a wide range of dogs with varying intelligence. I've had dogs that open doors and windows, and dogs that bite the revolving end of a moving weed whacker.

this argument always cracks me up.

personally, i just think the cat has no fucking idea what is going on. it has nothing to do with attitude.

Sure thing.

My dog could get the correct your, there, and spell words right.

Is that enough quantification?

Have you ever seen a cat that acts like a dog? You know, runs and jumps on shit, begs for attention, lets you pet their belly, comes when you call them, etc etc etc?

Cat acting like a dog... that statement just sounds weird.

Dogs are much smarter. Just because a dog plays by the rules doesn't make it blindly obedient, it means they know how to get what they want by fitting into society.

Cats get away doing much less. What does that say?

My dog, DJ, is the smartest! :) But I hear terriers are really smart. He amazes me everyday! (I'm probably just a biased parent!)
And he was so cute when he was a pup!

"Dogs rule and cats drool."

I think Dogs are smarter. Although this maybe because my brother's cat stays away from everyone but him and Vern is just the shit. I taught her how to sing on command in 2 days and she is 10 years old.

I've got 2 Toy Fox Terriers and the one anti-social cat.
Either way, I think I'm starting to take a much better liking to the doggies.
The cat just wants to be fed and his litter changed.... :-?
