Japan-based NTT DoCoMo announced today that it plans to begin testing on an experimental "Super 3G" system for extra-high-speed data on mobile devices. The country's largest mobile carrier said that it hopes to achieve an impressive 300Mbps down in its tests over the wireless network. The company has already begun accepting proposals from suppliers and hopes to implement the Super 3G system in Japan by 2009.

Which means we could see it in America in about 10 to 20 years judging by our current progress. :silly: I love the edge network!! j/p

Meanwhile, American cell companies are looking at other strategies. :D

Reports state the tin cans will not have a sim card but will only work on the specific carriers network. No word yet on data coverage, or any other coverage for that matter. Verizon is already trying to figure out how to lock the tin cans permantly to their network. Apple has its version the iCan, coming to ATT next summer. With the marketing slogan, iCan do anything you can do.
