When I try to synch up a user's My Documents folder to the network, I'm getting an "Access Denied" error.

The user has full control and is set up as the owner of the folder.

When I go in to the setup of the Synch, nothing shows up in the box where I'm supposed to select where to synch to. Any idea how to get stuff to show up there?

Spanks.

is the My Documents redirect handled through a group policy?

right click on My Docs > properties > target tab

what is the target? are you able to change it (if not, it's handled through GPO)? can you browse to the location through Windows Explorer? can you create a new file in that location?

The target is to the network. Originally it was directed to the C: drive. Should I have kept it the way it was?

I can browse to the location through Windows Explorer. What kind of file would I be creating, and how would I do that? I've got an idea, I just want to make sure.

step away from the computer.

right click > new > select any file type, even a folder is ok

you're testing if that user does have write access to the network share.

Don't be an asshole. I'm simply asking for help.

When I right click the actual My Doc folder in Explorer, I don't have the option to create a new anything.

When I highlight the folder, then right click inside, I'm given the option, but when I try to create a new folder, no new folder shows up.

When I check the permissions, he's got Full Control of the file.

I'm too much of an asshole to help any more.

Don't you have a local help desk? File a ticket... solving technical problems like that gives IT guys a woody. Plus they probably need more stuff to do anyway if they've got time to post on forums. Right Dirky-poo? :silly:

Wow.

Don't take this the wrong way, but your company should probably consider outsourcing your IT functions. Running an IT department properly is a highly specialized field. I wouldn't even consider myself (or even a recent comp-sci grad) qualified without tons of training. On top of that, not having your network in order and secure by trained and certified specialists with experience is a SERIOUS risk.

Um, I'm the newest person in the department. Everyone else is more than qualified. They were just not available when I was asking the question.

And I'm pretty sure had they been here, I STILL would've made this post. I thought the Tech Forum was for people to ask tech related questions. Not to talk shit everytime I asked a fucking question. Both about me, and about the company I work for.

I'll think twice before posting again. I forgot this is GBn where everyone knows more than everyone else and anyone with a fucking question is a moron and deserves to be talked shit to.

I'll just say that people have to learn somehow... for me it started off sticking x86 processors in incorrectly and many stinky melting plastic experiences before I got to the knowledge level I have now. I'm horribly shitty at explaining this stuff, hence why I don't work in tech support -- I could, however, do it if I were there. Sorry I couldn't be more help. :(

Why are you taking honest advice personally? Nobody's trying to insult you or your company. I'm just telling you what I would do in your situation. If you have a final escalation point that leaves for lunch then there's a problem, no matter who you are what you know or what company you work for. Even the "guy who knows everything" needs an escalation point. That's why he's that guy, because he knows where to find information when he doesn't have it himself.

Everybody was a newb at one point. However, no matter what your level of expertise is, GBN does not qualify as an escalation point. I think Dirk will agree with me when I say this isn't so much of a tech support forum as it is a forum for discussion related to technology.

Not only that, but walking somebody through a permissions issue is extremely time consuming even over the phone let alone a messageboard.

A good first place to check on the web to go to for that sort of thing would be newsgroups. Google has a newsgroup search function. Just type in your error message and I'm sure you'll find several people that have had your same exact problem and what they've tried to fix it.

It's not that big of a deal, Josh. I've already said I'll stop coming here to ask questions.

I'm definitely not using the boards as a final escalation point, just finding out if anyone knows the answer to my question.

I'll agree with Josh that this isn't much of a tech support forum, but I don't have any problems with people asking tech support questions (I've been known to bounce ideas off the minds here) and if I'm available I'll do my best to answer them.

I do have a problem with people asking questions then when I attempt to help they do not answer the questions I asked them, can't take the hazing that comes with being a noob and still don't answer my questions or follow my instructions. that gets them the Dwight Schrute shun
