Ok I'm Trying to figure out this recording program. I'm using Goldwave. I've figured out how to record, how to set it up, and how to save. The only problem I'm having is that the sound when it records is terrible. It records fine but its fuzzy sounding. It sounds like the speakers are blown, its terrible. If I play something else through the same speakers, like a CD or MP3 file, it sounds fine. I've tried different speakers and same thing. I think I need to do some tuning and figure it out. At first I was thinking I need an amp but I'm having it set up like this. The turntables are hooked up to the mixer, mixer to my stereo in line in, then line out to my computer in the line in slot. I'm thinking its a sound card issue. I don't have a sound card but a built in sound card on my motherboard. I know of a sound card I should get but right now with money as problem, thats really not possible. Any ideas? Maybe something I can ask my parents to get me for Christmas?

Oh the master sound is at about 8 out of 10 and stereo at 9 out of 40 and the line in on the volume control on the computer is all the way up. If that helps any of yah.

Most simple sound cards as well as onboard sound cards have only mono input jacks. If you plug a stereo jack into the mono jack it can have a variety of effects.
What happens exactly? The stereo jack mates one positive to the positive while mating the other with the negative to the mono jack negative. Your input device (sound card) reads the negative as a reference point. By pumping a positive input signal to the negative, you create a constantly fluctuating reference point. This reference point is going to fluctuate in reference to the input voltage, which can change from one device to another.
How to fix the problem? Ideally, you would get a better sound card that actually has stereo inputs, but if you want to get by without spending alot of money, go to radio smack and get a 1/8"mono jack to rca and plug in only the left channel.

Almost sounds like distortion. In which case you would turn the dj mixer down. Could be a shit cable tho.

Cool Edit? I'll look into it. Right now it's the Turkey weekend so I'm going to get drunk. I'll let you know how it goes.

Well I looked up Cool Edit and I aquired the full version. I gave it a shot and every thing sounded fine then the beat came in and I got the same problem. So I tried turning down the line in and the sound, although not as loud, sounded so much better. I felt that the line in for recording should be at max and not the mixer cause that just didnt' make sense so I put the line in back at max and lowered the mixer's volume. Although I had to turn up the volume on the main speakers, everything sounded great out of the computer. So it looks like I solved the problem. Thanks a lot guys, now I just need to experiment more with the sound till it sounds right then I can make a mix.

What bit do ya'll record your mixes with? 32 bit? I did the test in 16 bit.

Yah I made sure none of it is red lining. With the old program didn't tell me if I was red lining which probably explains why I didn't understand the problem. I already did a test mix and it sound BEEEEEAAAAAAAUUUUUUTTTTTIIIIIFFFFUUUUULLLLL!! I did it in 32 bit too. The line (sorry I can't think of the name right now, I'm on my laptop) goes into the yellow but very barely touches the red. Thanks a lot.

WOW this program has solved A LOT of the sound issues I was having. When I was mixing and recording myself, I could hear myself going to the next record. No matter what I did to change the sound like alter the hi, low, or mid, you could hear the next beat coming in. So, thankfully to Cool Edit, I put one record on and let it spin and checked the meter. Then I took the same record and put it on the other table. As I suspected, the mixer for some reason puts out more volume in Phono 1. So I turned down Phono 1 and made sure the volume was equal. Wow, that made a difference in my mix. Now it sound more like one track.

Cool Edit is the shit. My mixer is the sux.
