i am looking for a basic but useable pair of cd decks for use in my room. i played with some denon dn s3500 and dn s1000 yesterday in store. the 3500s are sexier, but the 1000s seem to provide everything i need/want from a functionality and a touch and feel stand point at 2/3 the price.

i don't want to get into hand wavy discussions about why one deck is "better" than another, since 99% of that seems to always be opinion. i could just get the pioneer beasts if i wanted to, but it'd be a waste of my money since i don't need 95% of the feature set.

more simply i'm wondering if anyone has ever used the 1000 and found it to be functionally insufficient or broken for simulating beatmatching vinyl, and if so, what were the issues you faced?

thanks.
andy

Those CD decks are great for the money. I've used them quite a bit and never had a problem.

i didn't even notice the sig.

i will never understand spam like that. is the idea that i decide i should click the link in their sig? it's nonsensical to me.

btw, last night i was talking with a friend and he brought up an option that i totally forgot about. final scratch. i think that solves my problem better than cd decks. i played with final scratch way back when i first came out (got an eval copy from stanton) and liked it then. it looks much better now. i may end up doing that instead.

i agree, that is a pretty rediculous method of spamming. if half the people dont even notice it's an advert, than it's not very effective

true, but i'm quite happy with the stability of my mac (though i have never run traktor before), and i think it'll work just fine for what i intend. i picked it up last weekend. so far i have only had one issue. i'm going to read the manual and play with it again today and see if it's something correctable.

I've never actually used final scratch, but I've done sound at probably about 10 shows where a DJ used it. Maybe one or two of those DJs were able to get through their set without fucked up sounds or no sound coming out of the speakers. And yes, a couple of those were macs.
And I must also not that Pioneer mixers suck ass. Of all the different mixers I have plugged my system into, Pioneers are the only ones that consistently have problems. I had to deal with three seperate DJM500s this weekend. All of which had issues. Whoever promoted these things as the "industry standard" needs to be shot in the knee cap, bitch slapped, and spit on just for the trouble I've been through in the past years repatching mixers and testing cables.

maybe this will become a problem some day, but i don't think i'm playing out anytime soon, and a glitch here and there in my room (if i experience them at all) may or may not bug me. we'll see. i'm going to hit it hard soon so that if i have major issues i can go back to the vendor with them before it's "too late".

If you're going with a vinyl control system I would recommend Serato. I've used both and have never had an issue with Serato.

Also, you get free updates and customer service is more solid.
