As I'm beginning to amass a number of useable mp3's, I've been looking for a program to use to mix them live. I've not found one that feels rite yet. Wondering if anyone has any suggestions?
Like I say, I'm looking for a program that I can use to mix mp3's live along with turntables. Midi controls mite be an asset. My problem with all the software I've tried is ease of cueing. It's hard as fuck to get it in the rite spot to mix properly. End up wasting to much time trying to match the beat. Anyway if anyone knows of such a thing let me know.
traktor for sure.
why is it so hard to cue for you?
myself, i find the "one" (first beat of the phrase im gonna drop on) and lock it into a single-beat loop... i've got a hotkey for that. time to drop it? stop the loop and the track plays on from the one.. the other nice thing about a beat sensitive loop is I can keep the track beatmatched while it's looping. also, you can mark start points in the traktor database, so you will always start the track at the "one" without having to muck with it.
as far as beatmatching goes... assign up and down arrows to control _fine_ pitch and left/right arrows to nudge (pitchbend) the track back or forward. that how I do it, atleast. works like a charm. with the keys nice and close, you can nudge the track and change the pitch at the same time with one hand. it also makes it much easier to ride out a mix this way, which you will HAVE to do with anything digital.
like CDJs, traktor can only control the pitch so much. its not as fine as an analog slider. .1% steps. if your having trouble getting it to sync up for long enough, move the pitch of the opposite deck up or down .1% -- of if your mixing against a turntable, beatmatch the turntable against traktor instead of traktor against the turntable.
in the beginning, I picked up a cheap USB keypad and assigned its keys to shortcuts and labeled the keys.. cheaper/quicker/easier than MIDI, but no knobs, just buttons.. hehe
