i guess i'll still do the digging for you people who continue to put trust in our corporate owned media.

In April 2004 the Veterans association stated that it had received 26,633 disability claims from servicemen returning from Iraq. Two months later on the Mcglochlin political show aired by CNN, discussion was on a casualty figure centered around 27,000. Hey, but why trust the VA when you can simply have FOX news feed you the truth.

During the Vietnam war the media did the same thing. Why you ask? Aggressive wars are not won on the battlefield. They are won in the minds of the people. Keep the people happy with low casualty rates, and let the war machine run wild.

this is really old..but i have to comment.
and maybe someone else said this to.
Most people in the army claim every to teh VA..its how u get paid for the rest of your life..and get your problems down the line covered by the VA...so lets say u hurt your ankle a little while deployed..or shit..even in the states not deployed..you tell the VA when u get out. so most people going to the VA arent in the service anymore.

I think that the elections allowed the majority of Iraqis to voice themselves, which is better than before in terms of choice, but as for if this will mean a more "free" Iraq in terms of civil rights is questionable. Many that ran for election (if not all) were likely already established in Iraq and entrenched in their respective Islamic sects. It's possible that the election may constitute more of a shifting of power from Sunni to Shi'ite than anything else. Obviously, we can't expect democracy in Iraq to closely resemble that of the United States.

yup.. it is mostly about shifting power.. from the minority to the majority.

doubly too bad for the sunni's, as thier religious leaders told the masses to boycott the elections, so they doubly lost seats... oh well, thats what they get for following a self-defeating course of action.

as far as civil rights and human freedoms.. i dont see what that has to do with democracy.. many highly brutal leaders have been elected fairly by citizens.. iraq certainly doesnt hold a "ditch brutal leaders free" card.. lol
