What is Nuendo, what does it do, and who is it for?--------------

Nuendo is a complete Media Production suite, capable of handling virtually any audio ask, big or small, from simple voice-over recording, music production, broadcast, game sound, and theatrical productions, to full post-production sound for picture. Nuendo was designed to meet the demands of working professionals in all genres of audio production.

Can I use Nuendo for music production?---------------------------

Absolutely. Nuendo includes all features required for today's toughest music production needs - Audio recording, Editing, Audio to Video Synchronization, Mixing, a complex, yet intuitive MIDI engine, Professional Scoring, VST Instruments and Effects, latency-free routing, and an amazing audio engine! Nuendo's multi-channel design allows for complete flexibility for all major delivery formats: mono, stereo and complete surround - perfect for DVD-A or SACD projects!

Why is Nuendo double the price of Cubase?--------------------------

While Nuendo always contains all features from Cubase SX, additional features are included serving the needs of the further markets that Nuendo was created for. These are mainly features needed in post-production and sound design for film and television but also functionalities that underline Nuendo´s claim to be one of the best surround production tools available today. For example the extended surround formats up to 10.2 and the availability of additional surround encoders to name but a few. Due to the extensive feature set of Nuendo, customization is also taken further than in Cubase SX to allow users to set up the system according to their individual needs in respect to the project they are working on.

What are the main post features of Nuendo?-----------------------------

Since Nuendo can import virtually any media delivery format, this allows for seamless integration with many of today's top video editing packages, such as AVID's Media/Film Composer suites (OMF), and Adobe Premiere (Premiere EDL), as well as AES31 used by such companies as Euphonix. Nuendo's Libraries allows for instant access to sound effects and music heavily required in any post situation. With it's multiple timelines, including 16mm and 35mm film timelines, Nuendo allows you to spot any event to sub-frame accuracy, from either the beginning or end of the event - perfect for synchronizing audio events to picture. The audio can be easily spotted to the video by enabling the edit mode on the Transport menu. As the cursor is moved in the time or audio part is moved on the project window the video will update on the screen frame by frame. Besides the ability to import digital video files, Nuendo includes support for Sony's 9-Pin control, allowing for frame-accurate sync and machine control with many of today's top VTR decks, including Sony's Betacam and DVcam decks.

Nuendo features various surround-sound formats, essential for any post project, and is the only Steinberg application to include support for optional Dolby Digital and DTS surround encoders, not to mention the built-in Dolby ProLogic encoding. Using Nuendo's Networking functions allows for multiple users to access the same media material and Project files on different systems to work on various parts of a project (dialogue editing, SFX editing and music editing) to be later brought together for the final mix. Sample rates of 192kHz on input and 384kHz on output, and up to 32-bit recording offer truly High Definition sound quality!

I work with digital video, how does Nuendo handle this?----------------

Nuendo allows import and playback of the following video file formats:
- MPEG
- AVI
- DV AVI
- Quicktime movies (both .QT and .MOV)
- WMV (PC only),
- WMV Pro (PC only)
A thumbnail video track is provided and Nuendo automatically extracts audio from the video file and places it on a new audio track. Three different video playback window sizes can be selected and a full screen video display is provided, which will work on a second monitor as well. The Nuendo OSX version also supports video playback with help of a Pinnacle Cinewave card and playback of DV streams via the firewire output of the computer. Once the audio work is completed in Nuendo the finished, mixed down audio can be laid-back into the original video file.

Does Nuendo sound better than Cubase?----------------------

Cubase and Nuendo share the exact same audio engine and pristine sound quality featuring 32 bit floating point bit depth. Nuendo also adds the ability to record at up to 192kHz and output up to 384kHz sample rates.

Does Nuendo load my Pro Tools Sessions?--------------------------

Nuendo cannot import Pro Tools sessions directly, but with the use of OMF transfers or Time-Stamped Broadcast Wave or SDII files, it is easy to bring a project started in Pro Tools into your Nuendo suite. Nuendo also has the ability to easily export continguous audio files for each track in a project for easy importing into other applications.
