okay i hear talk of "oh, you can slave xyz prog to abc prog" or "this will act as a rewire host" or whatever

can someone explain this concept to me, what it would be useful for, and so forth?

its pretty much a black hole of my knowledge at this point.... someone turn the light on for me

I think it's like opening a program as an Instrument in another program.

Like you can open FLStudio as a VSTi in Cubase... I think it's similar to that?

yep anything ReWire compatable can be used like a VSTi in Cubase, Logic, or Pro Tools... for example Reason and all its contents can be used in Cubase just like any other VSTi... you can add VSTfx and even sequence it into stuff you are doing with any VSTi or any Hardware you are running. ReWire is the shit... you should really learn how to use it.

You don't control it from the other program's interface. You have a little layout bar in the host program, just like it's an audio clip or a loop... except when you click on it to edit the clip... you get your other hosted program in a window.

the way i've used it is with reason as a slave to cubase.....basically the two are separate, but when you press play in cubase, it "presses play" in reason....so it's like having two sequencers for one track or project, both playing different elements, but all outputting a mixed track....so sequence in reason as if it were a part of cubase (ie. beat 128 in reason is on time with beat 128 in cubase)....as for using it as an actual VSTi, iono

basically it allows you to use the power of two sequencers and their strengths together

that and when you render the track all the sound from reason will be seamlessly mixed in with whatever else you have going. so basically its like a VSTi with its own integrated sequencer that syncs with cubases sequencer...

with Rewire 2 you can sequence Reason instruments from the host program. You can't with Rewire 1.
