Fear is contagious.

Of course the US should go. No one wants to see anyone taken hostage or killed, but I'm pretty sure they will be taking every procaution necessary for an event of this magnitude.

Isn't the Olympics one of the only times countries come together and support eachother?

does that make the olympics and the athletes competing in them any less of a target for terrorists?

Its the fucking Olympics... like... people train their entire lives to get into these games... the threat of kidnapping i dont think is great enough to prevent anyone from having a shot at being declared the absolute best at their event...

send the folks... granted its Athens... but we're the United States... we consistantly produce the best atheletes in the world because of our large amount of leisure time... and we need to flaunt it... it would put a red flag on the entire games if the US didnt show up

uhhh dude...do you watch the olympics? we routinely get our asses handed to us (or place 3rd) on just about every event outside of basketball and figure skating.

Actually we routinely have the highest point tally (Gold = 9, Silver = 6, Bronze = 3 type system) than any other countries.

could that be because we have athletes entering the most events? not all countries have entries for every event.

yes we should go. as soon as we have terrorists dictating how and when we should live our lives and do things that people have spent their lives training for, then they are accomplishing exactly what they've tried to do.

There are quite a few very active anti-american terrorist groups in Athens...

And Dirk... of course we dont win everyevent... but we're americans... we DO have people competing in every event, because thats our lifestyle...

not to mention... even competing in the Olympics is amazing... placing 3rd overall is incredibly amazing...

we have dominated the olympics for a good long time... we may not be the best at everything, but we are best overall....

In the track and field events the United States routinely has atheletes in the final heat... same with swimming... gymnastics we're incredibly competive in as well... we even won gold one year... boxing as well... we are overall the most competive nation in the world when it comes to the summer games... It would be like if the French didnt send a team to the Winter Games

If the united states is not at the summer games... noone can truly call themselves the best in the world... you have to beat at least one american to do that... and not to mention, everyone likes to put a cocky american in their place

yes..

It doesn't mater who you are.. everyone and anyone could be bombed or a hostage, murdered or killed..

Did you drive to work today? More people have died in car accidents then bombed or taken hostage..

You can't live in fear..

that, and like always... we whoop just about everyones ass..

We went to the 1936 Olympics in Berlin, we can go now.

If we prove anything with our atheletes, it should start with not being a flaming pussy.
