I'm a Caucasian American with Spanish and French ancestry, and I've fallen deeply in love twice in my life. The first time was when I was 16, to a Hispanic. She was a sweet and mannerable person from an upper class family. Her skin tone was a nice dark tan, and she was absolutely gorgeous. We dated for 3 years and then married. Unfortunately, infidelity entered the picture and damaged things beyond repair, and we split after a little over 2 years. Cut to 4 years later. Now, I'm 25, and I've fallen deeply in love again, this time to an African American. In fact, this is the strongest I've ever felt towards a woman because she is very honest, caring, considerate, adventurous, and eager to satisfy. Basically, I've been thoroughly impressed by a woman for the first time ever because she tries very hard to please and strives to put in as much effort as I do. However, I've been raised to think that "white and black don't mix." Personally, I haven't thought that way since I was about 11 or 12 years old because when I really started to think about it more for myself, I decided that it was silly and unreasonable. Anyway, my entire family, both my mother's side and my father's side, thinks this way. Many friends and acquaintances that I keep think this way. It's just really sad that individual differences having nothing to do with the person inside, such as skin tone, can dictate so much in people's lives. Even more ridiculous is the fact that no one had a problem with me marrying someone with a dark tan, but being intimate with a girl whose skin tone is just a shade darker makes all the difference in the world to some. I'm not letting this person go, no matter what anyone thinks or says, and if others can't treat her like the good human being that she is, then I don't want those others in my life. Either they will adapt their thinking and realize how close minded their conditioned biases are, or I will have nothing to do with them. I will not conform to injustice, and I will not force my partner to have to endure spoken or unspoken moments of discomfort for the sake of family or supposed friendship. I truly love her. Has anyone else had a similar problem in their lives?

well, my mom used to be a semi-racist (she would make retarded comments that would just get on my nerves) until i got to high school. my best friend is white, so is my ex and shes never been rude to them at all. i just think she realized that she was being dumb and started liking the people i was hanging out with. *shrug* i dont know where all of her hostility came from.

I went to Roosevelt H.S. and a lot of my friends there were black. My parents reacted weird sometimes. They've made comments in the past. I think it was just weird for them atfirst, i guess? I don't know.

My fiancé & I are not of the same race. I don't care. He doesn't care. I would like to think that nobody that matters cares, either.

i actually have a very similar story. i have had a relationship for the past year with a black male. my parents all come from old very traditional southern families.

i had to have a long talk with my mom one day and explain that everyone is human. i just asked her to specify exactly what her concerns were and i had an answer for every one of them. she's still hesistant, but she understands that her way of thinking is very backwoods and that she needs to start being more tolerant.

my stepdad is just ignorant. he's a lost cause.

i'm 24 now, but when i was in high school (in a very small town), i dated a black guy. my parents wouldn't let me out of the house and said i was ruining the family name. this was a costant battle for a long time. i guess my mom has come a long way. it helps that i don't live with them too.

yeah i dunno, its not like i'm racist or anything, but in general, i am just more physically and emotionally attracted to hispanics, africans, and asians. every woman i've met from any of those 3 categories totally beats any white girl i've met personality-wise.

as for physical attraction.......... i'm just a sucker for dark hair/dark eyes. i can't help it.

and i can't generalise either, i'm sure there are some badass, beautiful, perfect white girls out there, i just haven't come across very many yet

in regards to the post.... i dont think ive ever been attracted to a black woman before... but then again, i dont think i've ever been in social situations with very many black people, especially for extended periods of time... it has nothing to do with race, just associations. And one of the biggest thing about relationships is friendships. -shrug- if that makes any sense.

i can see beauty in all different forms and colors, but as far as attraction, i pretty much stick to the same race. *shrug* others just dont do anything for me on that level.

sorta like i have no problem saying a guy is hot, but ive got zero attraction to them.

i have the same standards for all women... but i find that there are more black women that meet those standards then white... i dont think id ever limit myself to a race... could be missing out on a beautiful human experience

My parents also have the "one shade difference" form of racism. We're hispanic, and it was okay for me to date certain shades of hispanic girls, but one that had too much Indian blood? Forget it. Then I dated a black girl for three or four years, wanted to get married and everything, and they were in an uproar.

I've grown up in hispanic surroundings and always had a lot of black friends. My first best friend was black. I spent a lot of time in primarily black churches.

However my last girlfriend was white, so I don't discriminate. Primarily though I'm attracted to black girls or dark hispanic girls.

Thus far, the responses in this thread help me to prove a point to a friend of mine.

A discussion arose one day about sexuality and prejudice. The topic was how heterosexuals are exponentially more colorblind than homosexuals. (Bisexuals don't count because we already see both genders, who has time for a race?) I strongly contend that it is gay guys who hold more serious reservations. It took me logging him on to gay.com for him to at least understand from where I draw my conclusions. (Note: Most of the guys on gay.com are out for nothing but sex, so it was the perfect part of the population to sample.)

We performed an experiment where I would start a private message with a guy and talk to him, then he would private the same guy after I'd gone and do the same. I made sure to have him ask if these guys would consider someone of a different race. Of the ten guys we picked, only one felt the need to even continue a conversation with me past hello. I asked him if he were attracted to guys of other races, to which he responded yes. I then explained to the guy what I was doing and thanked him for his participation.

Now this could be skewed by the fact that a large amount of gay guys are superficial mindless faggots who think of nothing outside Queer as Folk and the lastest circuit party, what they're going to wear, and gratuitous use of the words 'fabulous' and 'girl'. However, I also pointed out to him how many guys had in some way included "white only" in their descriptions, and he finally accepted the fact that heterosexuals are way more open minded than they're given credit.

That's just the way it is. Sad but true. I'd like to point out that in my case, my parents are the only ones that object. It's pretty hard to deal with but thank God I have the full support of my brothers and sisters-in-law.

I've noticed this in other cities I've visited/spent time in a LOT (Houston's a great example). Austin seems to be a little mellower, but there's still a lot more of that mentality going on than I'm comfortable with. So many gay men are this weird hybrid of redneck and yuppie. Boring AND ignorant. Doesn't make for a huge pool of talent to choose from.

Me? I couldn't care less about someone's race. I've been attracted to people of all colors.
