I've been toying with the idea of a harm reduction site on tbn to address the need for making information more widely available....there are a lot of people that come to the site, and it has to be expected that they are generally uninformed(don't anyone take offense to that)....

i've thought about having it be managed/maintained by local harm reduction groups so the quality and amount of information is high(i'm currently awaiting a response from IDEA to see if they would be willing/able/want to have a resource like this one)...it could also be something similar to an erowid like setup with information on laws, safety, and user experiences....

the biggest concern with it is that it won't get used and/or it will, essentially, just be duplicating information that is already out there(ie: bluelight/erowid)...it could end up being a pretty large project but i don't think it should be done if it will not get used...

i would like to hear other people's thoughts on the matter...be it ideas for the actual implementation of it, or if people think it will/won't be successful and why....

Thank you for your time.

I think we might get some that read it, Hell I asked a question there a week ago or so.

However our infulx of new kids is not very high and I think they are the ones looking for the information. However there are also the kids that do not look at all, but might if they stumbled across it on such a fine site as this one.

I have no idea if it would be used or not.

i think it'd be a big waste of time from all perspectives. i think most if not all of the worthwhile information would end up basically coming from existing sites anyway, and i think that sites like erowid and bluelight already provide a massive amount of information (much of which appears to be very accurate) and that people should just be directed to sites like those.

no offense to tbners, but i think the limited amount of worthwhile info anyone here would be willing to add would be better off being added to an already existing site like bluelight or erowid, and that the amount of info here would never be enough to justify the creation of an entire section on tbn.

I agree with Andy. Even though I know it will be used, the traffic won't be high enough to make it a worth while section.

no offense to IDEA, but they get all of their information from existing sites already, i.e. Dancesafe.com, erowid.org, etc. about all they could add to it is specific things related to central texas and i really doubt they've got their ear to the substance train to keep up with it all.

Perhaps, not an entire section directly related to harm reduction. But maybe you could put links to erowid, dancesafe, bluelight on the site so it could steer kids in the right direction. Because most of the old timers know about these sites and use them already when needing info on harm reduction/drugs. People who are not so aware of those sites could be made aware by links on our site. Maybe e-mail erowid, dancesafe, etc. and ask them if you may use a banner of their's or something and put their link in a harm reduction link database on our site. Perhaps, they might even be willing to exchange banners, ours for theirs, or something of the like.

Just an idea. :)

I agree also with Andy.

I dont think it would be worth the time and effort to recreate erowid, bluelight, and the like on here.

However, perhaps some more visible way of directing newcomers over to bluelight and erowid would do some good.....

How about something that is more geared towards educating people on the scene, and less on drugs?

it's hard to educate people on the scene. you can post the tradition, but that has fallen to the level of Idealism. pragmatically, teaching people about the state of the scene as it was 3+ years ago isn't going to accomplish anything.

I don't really mean educating them on what the scene was like in the past. I mean educating them on what the scene is about, or is supposed to be about. Music, being yourself, responsibility, etc.

I just think concentrating/promoting the positive aspects of the scene is better than concentrating or trying to fix the negative aspects.

Just my .02 tho....
