Synopsis from http://www.cnn.com/2003/WORLD/meast/03/ ... index.html

Quote:
The attack at Camp Pennsylvania, where soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division are stationed, wounded 12 people -- at least five of them seriously -- U.S. military officials said.

Financial Times correspondent Charles Clover -- who is embedded with the unit -- said he was told by Col. Ben Hodges, a commander of the 1st Brigade, that the soldier lobbed three grenades into the three tents housing commanding officers from the tactical operations center. At least two of the grenades exploded, Hodges told Clover.
.
.
.
Military criminal investigators said the suspect was recently reprimanded for insubordination and was told he would stay behind when his unit left camp for Iraq, Time reporter Jim Lacey said.

Lacey said he was told by a military commander that the soldier lobbed three grenades into the operations center and yelled, "You're under attack!" A major told Lacey he saw a grenade roll by him before an explosion."

*shakes head* I dunno whether to laugh or cry.

okay. watching the news.... i get the impression shit is sorta spiraling out of control right now. on their part, and ours.

our troops starting to attack the rear of our own guys. our missiles shooting down friendly planes. their civilians shooting blindly into rivers thinkin theres a downed pilot...

Okay I know this is off topic.. but:

Quote:
A base spokesman at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, where the 101st is based, said news of the incident upset families at the base was a blow to morale.

Is that a correct sentence?

are you serious?

friendly fire happens in all wars... its something that is gonna happen... its not funny... and even when done on purpose there is no humor in it whatsoever...

wouldnt it be funny if you died... and i laughed about the situation in which you got killed? youd probably wish me eternity in hell

I heard about this on CNN, and I immediately thought about the stories my father used to tell about Vietnam. He beat the crap out of some guy for doing something similar, except it was with a tear gas grenade.

He also told me that there were like hundreds of incidents like this in Vietnam. It's nothing new for the military, they've even coined a term for it:

Fragging - assassination of an officer by his own troops, usually by means of a grenade.

This is in no way hilarious, especially that such actions caused the loss of a life.

i never said death was hilarious

i think its hilarious that our own 'badass soldiers' are so pissed off about this that they frag their commanding officers.

I think there should be an "and" between "base" and "was."
