Pete Heller? You might have heard of him. As well as his occasional forays into chart territory, Pete’s been knocking out tunes for years and been DJing for even longer. Most of his fans would still have been getting to grips with the finer points of potty training while Pete was familiarising himself with the workings of the Technics. He’s been at it that long.

OK, let’s have some evidence… After taking up DJing at college in Manchester, Pete’s big break as a DJ came when Danny Rampling asked him to become resident at Shoom, the now legendary club instrumental in cementing house music’s foothold in the south-east. He was also involved in early Boy’s Own parties and, through this, began his studio apprenticeship (he already played guitar). As a producer, he’s been an integral part of Boy’s Own offshoot, Junior, for over ten years and has helped deliver some of the label’s finest moments.

Heller has been a key architect behind some of British house’s finest moments, both as part of the Batman and Robin of acid house – Farley & Heller – and as a solo artiste: ‘Wild Luv’, ‘Afro Sleaze’, ‘Tweakin’’, not forgetting the toppermost of the poppermost ‘Ultra Flava’ and ‘Big Love’. And, as for remixes, well we won’t even mention them because there are simply too many. Alright then, here’s a few: Pet Shop Boys, Danny Tenaglia, U2, Degrees of Motion, The Source, Robert Owens. It’s a long old list…
