anyone heard of this synth? seems like a fairly modest-priced project, and those sound samples are somewhat impressive

may be my next piece of hardware, that I get to construct, even :slayer:

i built this in '96..whoa almost ten years ago. Sounds good, but let me tell you its one hell of a project. Because i was doign alot of electronics at the time, i bought alot of the components from different places, except for the main Chips, front panel and circuit board. It takes a while to put together. It sounds pretty fat, hence the name. Because i moved a couple times to chicago and back, it probably broke somehwere in transit. I dont have an external case for it either. its racked right now. And i haven't really turned it on in a long time (i use mostly computer software now). I talked to one of the technicians and he said he fixes alot of fatmans that people screw up while putting it together. Its very hard to troubleshoot if you are a beginner because of the number of components. But its a great project.

hey, I saw your artist profile on AMODA, pretty impressive...

yeah, I have some decent softsynths (Arturia's 2600 and Moog Modular V, Reaktor 5, Minimonsta), but i've been itching to use analog hardware with my mpc. I need to get a midi controller too :-?

listening to lots of boards of canada, l'usine, and marumari lately, trying to get some ideas about the process/direction I want to go.

youll definetly need a midi controller for the fatman. But if you like to mess with soldering irons, i would recommend the fatman. it sounds great (but a bit limited since its a bass synth). I have 3 analog synths. A Sequential Circuits Prophet 600, Roland Mks-50 with pg300 contoller, and the fatman. They all sound great, but the computer allows me to save all my presets easily with actual names and such. Its just more convenient. I have the NI pro53 which is a software emulation of the prophet 5 (the 600's bigbrother) and it sounds just like my prophet. Also when i was solely analog, back in the day when computers couldn't do softsynths, i had horrible noise and humm in the system. so you can see how i can welcome the software. Currently im using alot of Reaktor 5 for my work. Reaktor and NI are really on the cutting edge of synthesis right now. you can hear a track im working on now: Crash Nonstop Minimal techno

But dont let the gear limit your creativity, rather push it to its limits. Ive seen many friends who are producers use only the MPC and all their stuff is on 12" now.

shit, ain't that the truth...

reaktor 5 provides me with more sounds than I know what to do with; I honestly think NI has more than 1 up on Propellerhead

mpc2000xl + reaktor 5 = 8O
