Ive heard some bad ass tracks made with that combination. I recently received a demo done by pros that will be on a major dance label soon.

The Oxygen 8 is really awesome. It really depends on what programs your going to use it with. However Ive been extreamly pleased with it so far. Every key on it is Midi asignable, but make sure if your going to use it to control a soft synth that you have USB 2.0. They have one called the Ozone that has alittle more features to it that you might want to check out. They came out with that one right after I bought my Oxygen 8 however its a little more expencive. Ill probably get one of the Ozones after I get my MicroKorg. Midi'ing those together with some of my programs is going to be unreal. :)

I would say no just because the oxygen is a single scale keyboard. It doesn't mean that you can't produce great tracks on it, I just like having a keyboard I can get both hands on.

well some people believe it or not actually are interested in playing their keyboard a bit when producing.......if thats the case you more than likely wouldnt want an oxygen for multiple reasons....if you dont give a shit and have no ambition of playing though, the oxygen is probably one of your best bet's for the cash im guessing-

Actualy its good for if you are poor and have the forsite into layering your keyboard parts. (It makes it sound a bit cleaner too.) Ya know there is a little button that says octave up and another one that says octave down. It gives you the full range of any keyboard. I have one and I definitly give a shit and have ambitions about my music.

On the same scale Ill probably get a Microkorg also, before I get a full scale keyboard. Your only limited by your minds imagination.

yea I feel ya....wasn't trying to come off like it couldn't work or be good on that end, but its just my personal taste u might say.....I like a full board with nice big and weighted keys, something I felt some of the keyboard controllers I've simply put a few fingers on in store's didn't seem to grab me as having....

Ok its no prob. Its just I like the smaller tools cause I dont have much room right now. (Which will one day change) Plus Ive found alot that I can do with it more from a basic line editor and controler that is very cool

It can definetely be great for producing tracks. There are many times when I am just using 3 keys for some synth on a trance line or to make a simple bass line. But if I am doing something where I need a piano or organ type sound, you just can't do that properly on single octave keyboard. I mean you can if you keep pushing that octave button, it just takes forever. I played the piano long before I ever started using keyboards, so using a single octave to produce anything is like chopping off one of my hands.

This is a much better controller than the oxygen 8.

http://www.edirol.com/products/info/pcr50.html

Its pretty inexpensive has assignable knobs, faders, and buttons. It also has pitch and modulation controls. If you're really serious pick up a synthesizer w/ keys and midi. That way you'll have a controller and some sounds to boot.

If you're on a very tight budget check out garage sales, or pawn shops. Get the cheapest keyboard you can buy, but make sure it has a MIDI OUT port on the back of it. It won't matter if its internal sounds are complete crap because you just want it to send out midi notes.

Heres a breakdown of prices:
Oxygen 8 - $125 - only 2 octaves of keys
Edirol PCR 50 - $225 - 4 octaves of keys
Used Yamaha AN1x (eBay) - ~$300-400 5 octaves of keys, plus it is a full fledged synthesizer w/ loads of features, and built in FX.
(this synth might not be suited to your style).

If you just want to stick with reason and softsynths I think its worth shelling out the extra $100 to get the PCR-50 that way you'll have a usable keyboard range. 2 octaves really is nothing.

True thats a nice controler, M-Audio makes a 64 key controler that is similar. I like the Oxygen 8 for its compact size, portability and it works well with my limited space. This summer Im getting a house with a 2 car gararge that Im turning into a studio. Then the Synth buying will insue.
