At first I couldn't believe that Mccain would make this kinda move, surely it's political suicide. It's 100% obviously a political stunt, but the more i think about it the more i think it's the most brilliant move he's made since picking Palan (politically).

He's placed himself at the epicenter of the ONLY national issue anyone cares about right now, while Obama said "hey, call me if you need me." They both eventually have to go to DC, but while Mccain goes under his own perceived will, Obama goes at the beckoning of the president.

While both the candidates have now released statements that show they each agree on most parts of the bill, only Mccain can pass the bill now, and only Mccain can deliver the administration and the House republicans. No matter what happens, Mccain is now going to be seen at the center of this bill and whether it gets passed or not, while Obama is left on the outskirts, still campaigning and debating his own Vice President.

As long as McCain stayed away from Washington, it was the Democrats against the Republicans. Polls give the Democrats the edge. But voters trust McCain personally more than they trust Obama to manage his way out of a crisis. By showing up in Washington, McCain makes the issue personal, not partisan. The polls also showed a 3 point jump in Mccains favor overnight, so I think the general voting public is seeing this in a positive light, as well.

I really hope when Mccain gets elected he transfers a lot of his campaign staff into the whitehouse, because these guys are absolutely brilliant.

PS. In the video clip, does Letterman really have Keith Olberman on right after Mccains scheduled slot? That may just be the way the clip is edited, but hell I would have canceled no matter what the polical climate.

what polls? the avg has McCain still at a +3 point deficit

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls ... a-225.html

and how can you say Palin was a brilliant political move? She's going to be lynch pin that when pulled collapses the entire campaign for him. Why are they hiding her away?

http://michaelsavage.wnd.com/?pageId=1565

also looks like McCain changed his mind...I guess he solved the economic crisis already

Mccain was always going to debate.

The thing about Mccain is, he will ALWAYS take the opportunity to take an issue and try to depoliticize for the greater good, he has a track record of this, even well beyond the current election. The democrats could have passed this abortion of a bail-out bill on their own, they have the majority and the few republican votes needed, but they hadn't, why do you think that is? Tuesday Reid is calling for Mccain to take a stance, so he could have be on the hook for a bill that promises 20% revenue to ACORN (fraudulent voter reg/community organization with ties to Obama). So much of the population is against this bill that in order to pass it politicians want EVERYONE behind it so that they can all share in the repercussions. Democrats announced that the deal was done and ready to be put on paper as soon as Mccain announced his plans so that as soon as he got there, they could say he ruined it. The conservatives have all the bargaining power over this bill now, it's in their hands, that was the plan and it has worked.

Palan was a brilliant choice, she completely united the conservative base behind Mccain, who no one was very enthused about. The manner in which the media went after Palan only further solidified that support. Lynch pin? Collapse the campaign? They've been trying to use her for that purpose for a month now, and it hasn't happened. In fact, it's only worked against the left. They were left comparing Obama, their pres. candidate up against Palan, the VP candidate, and he STILL didn't measure up to her. The Palan pick did everything the conservative base needed it to do.

So what did you guys think of the debate?

I was furious at the end of the first question of the night. McCain let the entire conservative base down when he refused to make the Obama-Bush connection. If he had made the point that Obama and the democrats were supporting and trying to expedite this abortion of a bail-out that the Bush admin. put forward, it would have changed the face of the entire debate, start to finish. Obama wouldn't have been able to pull that "Bush/McCain failed policy" card he pulled continuously through the economic portion of the debate. Beyond that, not drawing the conclusion completely nullifies the move of suspending the campaign to go to Washington.

I think he still has time to make that ground back up as the Bill hasn't been made yet, and even a lot of the moderate democrats are expressing discontent that other viable solutions (including the conservative ones) have not even been looked at. I'll be watching for something on Monday.

Obama did much better in Foreign policy than I thought he would. He's markedly improved his ability to work without the teleprompter, all the prep work he did down in Fl. this week must have worked. McCain did a great job of taking him to task over his willingness to sit down with Ahmadinejad, and his ability to pull from nearly 3 decades of experience I think gave him the easy victory on this topic. All that was a wash due to his lackluster performance on the economy, though.

Overall I would say Obama won the debate. Mccain won foreign policy, but Obama won the economy, and thats a much bigger issue right now. Plus, I imagine a lot of people only watched the first half since it was more pertinent.

I was disappointed not seeing Palan doing the press conference afterwards. I really wish they would let her off the leash and let her be what she is. With Biden making daily gaffes, I think it would benefit Palan for people to see her even if her inexperience shows through, atleast we can watch her learn and keep up with her progress.

Dick Morris had (as always) had some good points on the Bailout and the McCains position in the electino: http://www.dickmorris.com/blog/2008/09/ ... /#more-449

McCain/Obama - two sides of the same fucking coin.

They'll both just continue to sell the country out to the banks, all while keeping you people stupid by talking about pointless shit like abortion or gay marriage.

Politics in this country are about as real as wrestling.

In this current "crisis" there is a difference. Fannie Mae is larger in size and scope than Enron and WorldCo combined, and its right at the center of this entire thing, and because every trail leads back to democrats, no ones talking about it.

So tomorrow tomorrow we give the treasury secretary complete power to "ensure" our welfare so the same people who caused this mess can fix it. Right now thats Secretary Paulson, who made the proposal, imagine that. What happens when Obama gets elacted and it's Frank Raines?

All that money we are supposed to expect to get back from buying up all these bad mortgages, does anyone expect we are going to get a check in the mail? The government doesn't make money, it just gets used to grow government.

Riiiiight.

Both sides are sitting there talking about how we need to "come together" to give a few banks $700 BILLION. To put things in perspective -- that's over twice as much as what we've spent on the war in Iraq. They're robbing us blind right in front of our noses, and both sides are all for it. Paulson, Raines, it wouldn't make a difference. God forbid they hold the bank accountable and allow smaller banks to fill the gap. Competition is terrible for the economy after all, amirite?

A woman in a hot air balloon realized she was lost. She lowered her altitude and spotted a man in a bass boat below. She shouted to him, ‘Excuse me, can you help me? I promised a friend I'd meet him an hour ago, but I don't know where I am.'

The man consulted his portable GPS and replied, 'You're in a hot air balloon, approximately 30 feet above a ground elevation of 2346 feet above sea level. You are at 31 degrees, 14.97 minutes north latitude and 100 degrees, 49.09 minutes west longitude.'

She rolled her eyes and said, 'You must be a Republican ...'

'I am,' replied the bass fisherman. 'How did you know?'

'Well,' answered the balloonist, ' everything you told me is technically correct, but I have no idea what to do with your information, and I’m still lost. Frankly, you've not been much help to me.'

The man smiled and responded, 'you must be a Democrat’

'I am,' replied the balloonist. 'How did you know?'

'Well,' said the bass fisherman, 'you don't know where you are or where you are going. You've risen to where you are, due to a large quantity of hot air. You made a promise that you have no idea how to keep, and you expect me to solve your problem. You're in exactly the same position you were in before we met, but, somehow, now it's my fault!!'
