I took a drug test today for a job I just started and when I went to the clinic, they just stuck the cup in a little tester thing and a light turned on and the results were in. Everything was connected to a regular Gateway computer just like an ID card machine or something.

Thats the first time ive seen that shit before. Is this new? Accurate? I thought Id ask.

eh most UAs dont go under a microscope... because well that would make them pretty expensive... most are instant... if its in your system it will show up immediately... dont have to sit around and sift through urine

Since I work for a lab I can explain this better, the results for most tests are rather quick, there are machines that do this type of stuff qucikly now, what takes time, is preparation and shipment of the sample, the place you went had an instrument on site, so they could do the test fast, however if not, it has to be packed, shipped and then tested, it might have to be unfrozen or other things could have to occur before it is tested, this is where most of the delay on results comes from.

I completely didn't see any reference to needing to pass a drug test. *shakes head*

its not about passing them- its about the method and acuracy of the method.

i was in a rehab where they had this kind of testing.
in the course of my stay there, we were all piss tested and our rooms searched because of a glitch in the system or some kind of cross contamination. it showed that 4 out of 5 people were positive for barbituates- and when they ordered a second round of tests, after re-examining the system, everyone showed up clean (exept for the obvious residual THC) .

which is pretty messed up considering the future of your job/criminal staus can be determined by the results of a potentially faulty system.

the quick test you took is the same test they sell at eckerd's and walgreen's for ~$30 - it registers a positive for a given pre-set concentration of a substance. This makes this test very suceptible to dilution of the sample for false results.


if this test is positive, then the more expensive test is run on the sample, to rule out false positives.



grr. drug tests suck, and are a violation of my civil liberties. ive been personslly degraded three times by being forced to pee in a cup for a corporation.
