"A Tech Strategist within Microsoft, Nigel Page, has gone on record to discuss the hardware requirements for Windows Vista, due out next Christmas.

What he's said is kind of shocking."

This really fucking pisses me off. I'm not a gamer. I just need a simple terminal that allows me to record my mixes, surf the net, ftp and VPN into work. I'm not willing to spend 1400$ or more on a computer to barely do what I do as it is. The part that really pisses me off? Is the new display output standard? Pretty much rendering all our current LCDs and current monitors completly unuseable. Fucking weak.

The only reason I haven't fully migrated over to Linux is my sound card isn't supported.

I'll probably never use WinVista. I'm going to wait for GooOs.

I'll continue to use Win2k until it no longer supports the applications and hardware I wish to use.

Not broke, dont fix. It does everything I need and has never BSOD'ed on me.

I've been running Vista beta on my primary workstation @ home for a few months now. specs on it are

p4 3.06
512MB PC2700
7200rpm ATA133 drive
FX5200 128MB video card

haven't had any performance issues with it, runs just as smooth as XP does. only problems have been that very little software will run on it, but that's to be expected.

just like XP out of the box it's made to be pretty and runs slower on lower end systems. a little tweaking will show great improvements.

Question:

Ok so with this its mandatory to have a higher spec system right? So like it said the hardware companies will be rubbing their hands in glee when people start buying their higher end parts in mass. Well, with that wouldn't the supply go way up, and the prices be driven down, and in the end you'd buy a system that would now cost you 3-4k for maybe 1500-2k? Maybe not so drastic of a change, but by the time that thing is released anyway wouldn't new hardware already be released for 64bit systems, and the prices on that stuff being going down as well?

Anyone can answer..kthx

I think at first prices will be around the 3k-4k mark, but like always price will go down. I'm still stewing over the whole HD part of the puzzle that renders all current LCDs and Monitors useless. The MPAA, and RIAA really are part of the new world order trying to strong arm everyone into doing it thier way. No mater how hard they try, people will pirate and you can't stop it. (i'm not trying to turn this into an MPAA and RIAA vs Pirates arguement as to not derail the thread)

I seriously think that because of something like Vista, open source projects really will sky rocket because of how well most of them run on lower end hardware.

WTF?! That's seriously fucked up. Nobody is going to buy a speical monitor just so they can watch HD-DVD's on their PC. Someone will just figure out how to play them on normal monitors anyway. Like we really need a fucking 3rd video output standard. :2up:
