Yes the djs throws in some hip-hop but its a dance remix... DANCE MUSIC, not jump up and down in your white-T music. big diffrence.

you people are slamming a place that just opened, then you all wonder why SA sucks, b/c all of you suck! Lets get this place open, get you heads in there, requesting music to the dj, voices are heard when there's action along with it. The ghetto doesn't go where it doesn't fit in, so lets not let them fit in here, period.

Actually I was just asking for confirmation on it and not even attempting to slam it....no disrespect meant. Thanks for putting my fear to rest though.

With guys like Choice Sound, Knos, Cilly C and Co...I really hope it turns out well. They deserve a really nice place to play at.

LOL @ I almost let things get "out of control"...I call bullshit.

What was on the verge of being out of control may I ask?

You make it seem like the thread was about to embrace Communism or riot because I wanted confirmation on the Hip-Hopness of the joint. FYI, Top 40 music is still a far cry from the all-dance format that was previously in the works.

If you're gonna get defensive and look for a scapegoat...go ahead and blame me for San Antonio having its weak attitude towards dance music. In return I'll continue to push dance music in my own way and blame venues that are too scared to take a chance and do something different...even just for one night on the weekend.

I guess the world doesn't have enough sheep...

But seriously, thank you for setting things right. San Antonio can sleep easier now that its Top 40 is safe from harm once again.

Economics is to blame. The place is tipping the scales for the interior finish out alone - and that is not including the sound - which was there previously. The rent is relatively low - but investors want a fast return - of which "top 40" will deliver.

What is required is not "balls" to have an all dance music agenda - it is the population to support it. We are the Elmer Fudd of major metro areas - charming, annoying but true.

Buy more bottles when you are at the club - that will always increase the profit margin. It is not enough to just go - you must consume. If not, travel and support the world's dance culture.

isn't that the truth...does san antonio really have a strong enough scene to support an all house music format? can club owners wait to make a return on their investment during the 'growth' period before changing to a more commerical (profitable) music format?

people need support places like this and not just during big events. with that i hope to see more people at there on wednesdays and thursdays.

i've been out there every week (maybe missed one thursday) before the grand opening of metropolis and hope there is a bigger turn out tonight....and weeks to come.

def need to support the house music what ever. but maybe if investors clubs owners, djs etc. would stop trying to open up a mega 5 million dollar club and try to only play house music and expect a giant return, only to be disappointed. then turn to 18+ and hip hop, top 40 club. then convert the underground room to some salsa reggeaton bullshit.
cant open up giant house clubs up here, doesnt work.

oh yeah. the grafas de sole... lentas... or the flea market guccis (we are in SA) and believe me I saw plenty of those last night. the nicest thing some of those rats had on were there sunglasses. thats why i said man, there's enough of us educated classy people here in SA that enjoy going out, if we ban together believe me the ghetto will see they don't and can't (as hard as they try) fit in.

To all the rubberband mans or wanna be rubberband mans in SA: I don't care how you make your money, just carry yourself well.

who knew "educated classy people" work at clubs? i thought they all cleared 35 thou a year and worked 8 to 5.

personally, i hate the fascism that goes on in most clubs. if you can tweak a dj set, make it work and keep a good mix of DIFFERENT types of people, then great. some of the best nights i've been to in san antonio had a crazy mix of people all getting down. yeah, the hood element was there but no one was getting out of hand. i doubt Metropolis/Mystique should have a problem with it.

i will never be a slave to the 8-5, i'm too smart for that. don't you wish there were more educated kats working in the clubs. I do it b.c its a hobby, its hard work, but i like to hear other people say good things about somthing i'm involved in.

thanks e.. but i don't drink, i'll take a sugar-free red bull

yes you need a good mix of people, you just have to watch and make sure that mix meshes.

and how many of you cats have been there yet? PAID COVER AND BOUGHT A DRINK WITHOUT ASKING FOR FREEBIES??? I don't understand you people complain about energy, everyone brings their own energy, a party is a group effort, if you are just standing at the bar like a lump of shit, wtf do you expect? and here in SA we have plenty of bar flies for you lumps of shit.

I think the intention is to attract all phases of the clubber - ending with the pre- middel age african american crowd. That is one profitable market is SA, as no one caters to them.

you know, if self righteous people who claim to be "classier than thou" and "above it all" attend these nights, i would seriously reconsider going. i have been to Mystique twice, and that was before it opened. i paid for my drinks. yeah they were expensive, but i figured that before going in so no surprise there! i went to support a mutual friend who DJ's on Thursdays. it's an extremely nice setup. i would love to see something done with that place to make it last. but San Antonio, and that particular location have a history of clubs starting out only to burn out 6 months later. i'm not too sure, but it feels like club owners are trying to recreate the ritzy/super/monster clubs as you would see in other larger metropolises (i.e. New York, Miami, L.A.,...eh ok! Houston). a great idea, but San Antonio has no industry here. we are a tourist town with the majority of our jobs here being in retail. sure we have people here in the upper eschelon of the pay scale, but most of those people don't frequent house/techno/dnb clubs. and if they do, it's not because DJ X is playing there. maybe the club owners should, at least, step back and survey the landscape first. trying to attract a non existent clientele is just throwing money away. cater to the locals and people who want to see these dj's and electronic acts. you would be more profitable that way, and hopefully your clubs would last longer!

as for the riff raff that some people want to keep out. i've been to several (what would be deemed) classy places (i.e. Lexington/Bar 11, Q Bar, Rebar, Revolution Room, Swigs, etc...) and still had the pleasure of watching someone vomit on the dance floor, get into a fight, mean mug everyone in the place, or going to the bathroom for a bump. there's no difference!

trying to hypocritically point the finger elsewhere is only going to show evidence to your stupidity. you're on here trying to get san antonians to support something and yet you so callously sling barbs at us? are u trying to get people out to support the club so it will last? or are you trying to get people out to support the club so you'll have a job there? i question your motives, and wonder how big a supporter of the scene you are!

maybe people in glass houses shouldn't throw their louis vutton purses!

oh i'm sorry Mrs. Global Beatz! is there a seniority list here so i know who not to talk to? did i step out of line by addressing an "elder"? as far as i can tell, you've clearly stated your outlook and feelings on the san antonio club scene in the context of one post!

hmm a young "noob" (that seems to be an internet computer "lingo" term, which you deemed lame) like me managed to figure you out so quickly and get under your skin? maybe the time spent on a message board and the time actually spent out supporting the scene should be re-evaluated.

no disrespect to anyone else on here. but clearly, someone who labels themselves and everyone else in their community so blindly, reveals some type of shadiness to their character.

point is giant megaclubs dont work in sa. if you want them to work it's going to take and 18+ crowd, top 40, hip hop, and let anyone in and that only lasts so long. take your pic of how many come and go. also doesnt help when sa has the same owner or same type of owner that owns every damn location in sa. plays the same shit.

i think the need for a small decent ave venue with house or trance, etc. would work but this megaclub vegas club ra underground shit wont work here. thats why the smallest room is always the underground room.

im down to check it out, but if anyone is looking for just an underground house scene or club better off hitting the bars here or hit the club during the week. nice to see someone actually put some effort in that building, but time will tell history is not on that location's side. out...........

haha

im perfectly happy w/ my 8-5...I would not DREAM of doing anything else...
nightlife is truly shady, no matter how "intelligent" they may be deemded by regulars or even social clientele.

sugar free red bull it is....
I'll have a redbull and vodka...

speaking of this place, I need to call charlie...

there is a lot to say about people who can make a living in such an unconstant business....but I have a lot of respect for a person who can juggle all lifestyles equally....
excess leads away from success...

CHARLIE...call me back man

haha
