are they the prompt of many debates to find an answer? or are they the prompt of many debates because the person asking the question wants to create an endless argument?

some people just like to argue.. its like taking a bunch of geeks and throwing them in a room and letting them have it out as to which is better.. Mac, or PC? Windows or Unix.. StarWars or Star Trek.. Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings.. Bruce Lee Vs Mike Tyson.. *shurg*..

Exactly. There's a reason that I can make a comment in a debate and just let people thrash it for two or three pages before making another one. I don't NEED to be right, especially on a messageboard, and nobody else's opinion is going to justify my own opinion anyway.

I think one of the reasons debates get kind of aggro in here sometimes is that more than a few of us are posting from work.

this may be true for the most part, but just remember as soon as you think you have some wit or some intelligence, there is allways gonna be somebody that will dominate you in that regard. a real genius doesnt think he/she is one. its the dumbshits that think they are smart. ive been guilty of being a dumbshit ... so have most people, wich goes back to what you were saying....

You see all these questions on TV that no one has an answer to, much less do people ever provide solutions, and it's mere politics.

The first case is self explanatory. Number two has more to deal with people saying we need to, say, change our government. Okay, how? All of a sudden you get crap like "REVOLUTION!" "BOYCOTT!!"
Okay, that's great. Now what do you know about the candidates? About the issues at stake? etc etc.
For instance 7.83 has made some arguments that I completely disagree with but at least he can back his shit up to a degree.

I don't think I'm the end all be all of debaters and intellectuals. Go look at some of the shit Lady posted, that's the symbol of a moron. Anybody going around saying "I was the top debater" blah blah blah, that's a moron right there.

I like debate, I like contrary opinions, but when a person has no experience in something or can't back their statements up, that's what I can't stand.

I can't stand people who quote obviously hip shot comments either, comments that aren't meant to be taken seriously. For example, see above.

I took debate in High School and learned how to do a neat trick with my pen while my opponent destroyed my views. Debate is great, even when I'm called a moron by fag hands.
