true, but before you judge, don't you think you should give Dilla's work (A Tribe Called Quest, Pharsyde, Common, Slum Village to name a few) some listens and then tell me why you disagree? a degree can give you knowledge but rhythmn comes natural. ;-)

Hey, I spin techno and dnb, but can also lay down some funky shit on drums. C'est possible.

I want to get together with a turntablist and bass player sometime. That would be really fun.

no, its producer oriented. jay dee is really more of a musician/hip-hop producer.

the lyrics are not important as the music, they are just another element.

idunno about that one. the whole point of having words is to define the energy of the music tangibly to the mind. i dont understand how people listen to shit rap because "they just like the beat" . you can have the most bangin beat around, but if your spittin over it about how cool you are and how tough your crew is, or how your babys moma left you... it turns instantly in to a useless pile of grilled horsecock.

NINJATUNES. they know whats up with hip hop.

ROOTS MANUVA. he knows whats up with hip hop.

DJ SHADOW. he knows whats up with hip hop.

PREFUSE 73 . he DEFIANATLY knows whats up with hip hop/downbeat .

BOARDS OF CANADA. more hip hop/trip hop that just cant be fukt with.

----a phat driving beat/melody that hits the main sonic pressure points is mandatory in most music id say. but most of these hip hop "producers" dont get passed that. its blunts, beer , and boom ka- boom boom ka.

the only reason most of their shit sounds big and phat is coz some engineer that they paid big bux to mixed it down for them.

dre's secret-- a oold white dude and an SSL 9000 j . i can make kelly osbourne sound good on one of those things.

ill say it again.-- mainstream hip hop producers are for the most part unintelligable minimalists who think the MPC is the only drum machine ever made.

LOL dont mean to blantantly talk shit. im just an opinionated fuck. dont mind me.

yes alot of mainstream producer are crap. that has nothing to do with jaydee, jay dee can produce some popular hits though, like busta rhymes - woohah, tribe called quest - vivrant thing, common - the light. jaydee uses a sp12000, so did pete rock, large professor, so did dr. dre back in the day. many hip-hop producers don't use the mpc neither, neptunes use an asr10.

I challenge you find an producer with drums like jay dee, in term of pace and tone and rhythmn its as if a human being was playing them. beautiful.

if the beats nice and the emcee has a good flow, I don't care what he's saying really, all emcees talk about the same shit no matter who they are.

i know plenty of programmers that have thE humanizing thing down . these hip hip techniques are old news , but i respect your identification with this particular beat shitter .

to say that ALL mc's talk about the same thing is pretty ridiculous, allthough i know what you mean. These kinds of mc's i cannot stand. Shit.. mc's get on my nerves period... but a select few have the ability to talk things like science and politics .

retaining a sense of artistic lyrical balance, while recalling and conceptualizing topics of importance and intelligence, is a serious task .

ill say it again > ROOTS MANUVA

If you wanna get in on the good chill beats, pick up some boards of canada.

theres no way they have his dynamics.

was A Tribe Called Quest really that deep? no but Q-tip had a smooth voice that went along with the vibe. was Rakim really that deep? nope, but he was a lyrical genius.

all rappers have something they mostly talk about. Jay-Z is street, so he raps about hustling. Redman mostly talks about weed, he's still nice. I wouldn't have them any other way.

even Dilla rocks gold chains, he's still very dope.
