Yah, don't get into the vid much myself. What I've used SMPTE for is syncing an analog 1" 16 track with a computer running SONAR, cuz I like to record drums onto analog tape. Then I 'dump' the analog onto digital media. Worx like a charm.

werd, this one was used for audio and video , while the smpte was locking it in sync with the lasers .. the scanners in the laser operate in coordination with the timecode.

do you have a tape machine....or maybe know a studio in Austin that does?.....The reason I ask is because im looking to do just that....record a bunch of my playing (drums) on to tape, then take that back into my studio to work with from there....I got in contact with a guy who had a few tape machines mainly recording punk rock I think, but lost his #

The tape machine is owned by one of the members of a band I play in, and unfortunately is currently out of commission. I'll let ya know if we get to fixing it anytime soon.

Sweatbox studios has a 1" tape machine, and a guy named Brian who is a good engineer. There's the Bubble, but Frenchy has an MCI 24-track 2 inch, and charges a bit. Not to mention the extreme cost of 2" tape (about 125-150 dollars last time I had to buy it). I'd look up Sweatbox. Those guys are super nice, work fast and well, and won't charge you an arm and a leg. There's one other guy I know of who has a 1", but I can't remember his name or studio right now. It's in the same building as the Bubble.

If you're just recording drums, it probably wouldn't be very time-intensive. One consideration would be whether you want to bounce the loops to digital as separate tracks or mix down and then get your loops as stereo files.

Probably would just take the time there and mix down the loops into stereo files and leave with those...but would depend on their set-up and which would be more time consuming...would be nice to leave with the separated tracks digitally, then take them to mix them down myself on my own time so I could manipulate them as need be in the computer and be able to always change and take away as I like....but that might be tedious for them to do, but i really dont know if that would so guess it depends.....

sorry for the thread hi-jack 7.83 ;0
